Smith Chapel UMC Hosts Summer Concert Series
Small Church Thinks Big with Four Summer Concerts in Great Falls
Smith Chapel Statement of Purpose:
To nurture and equip the people of Smith Chapel, enabling us to reach out and demonstrate the redemptive love of Jesus Christ, in order to increase the Kingdom of Heaven.
Smith Chapel wanted to do something for the community that only a family Church like theirs can do: provide great music in an intimate and worshipful setting.
Smith Chapel United Methodist has been a vibrant, loving congregation nestled among the mighty oaks of Great Falls since 1890 when the family of Jesse and Lucine Smith devoted their life to this Church. Though passersby may not notice all that’s happening, the
congregation is doing great things in the name of Christ. Over the years, Smith Chapel has established themselves as a historic chapel providing a beautiful, quaint setting for couples to exchange vows and begin their new life together. They actively support many missions, but continually look for ways to be involved in the community and faithfully minister God’s word. The congregation is truly a family here at Smith Chapel.

Smith Chapel Gazebo
Pastor David J. Zuchelli has been in pastoral ministry since 1980 and is an ordained elder in full connection of the United Methodist Church. His style of preaching is Bible-based and down to earth. Together with him, Smith Chapel emphasizes an everyday walk in the Spirit of God and are tireless in their efforts to feed the hungry and clothe the poor. The congregation is always helping those seeking spiritual healing and enlightenment to find the path that will lead them to salvation in the Lord Jesus and an abundant life in Him. Smith Chapel is a small, intimate congregation seeking to provide a rich worship experience and an opportunity to live out your calling among people of like faith and mind.
Smith Chapel UMC of Great Falls would like to extend a cheerful invitation to join their congregation for any or all of a series of summer concerts. The concerts will be held each second Saturday from June through September. The schedule is as follows:
June 13 — Jim Cole, 7 PM (from Nashville, TN)
July 11 — Chrissie Dalton, 7 PM (from Winchester, VA)
Aug. 8— Bob Bennett, 6:30 PM (from Costa Mesa, CA)
Sept. 12 — Songs for Danny, 4:30 PM (Local Artists, Food & Song)

Each concert is presented as a gift to the community. Tickets are free but the venue is small and intimate. PLEASE NOTE: These events are all scheduled for outdoors unless there is inclement weather. Please bring a folding chair, cushion, or blanket for your comfort. Tickets are free, but Smith Chapel encourages you to order tickets well ahead of the event as space is limited. Please order early!

You’ll be glad you did! These will be quality concerts, with top Christian recording artists. Please take this terrific opportunity to enjoy their talent and ministry.
June 13 — Jim Cole, 7 PM
The first concert of the summer will be performed by Jim Cole. Many of you will know him from his appearances on DIRECTV’s Christmas and Easter Praise Specials with Amy Grant, Darrell Waltrip and Nicole Nordeman. Others will recognize him from airplay on Christian radio stations around the country.
Jim comes to us from Nashville, TN, like so many other fine musicians. We're excited to have him here to kick off the summer and get us rolling. Jim has several superb albums to his credit, the latest being The Acoustic Hymns Project.
After releasing six albums, and performing before thousands across the country, Jim continues to be astonished by the response his music receives. “It’s great to hear from people who have been touched by these songs. It has been good to know that the Lord is using this in ways I am not even aware.”
July 11 — Chrissie Dalton, 7 PM
Shortly after our nation celebrates her independence, we will celebrate as well. On July 11, we will host an old-fashioned Hymn Sing and Ice Cream Social with a special emphasis on the blessings God has bestowed upon the USA. Chrissie Dalton will be our featured performer that evening.
Chrissie is from the Winchester, VA area and has been a favorite of Smith Chapel for several years. Now we want to introduce the rest of you to her, her voice and her passion for the Lord Jesus. We will be singing some old hymns, eating some ice cream and enjoying God's praise through Chrissie's talents.
It will be a belated, old-fashioned fourth, ice cream and all! Come join us! We will begin the celebration at 7 PM.
Aug. 8— Bob Bennett, 6:30 PM
On August 8, we are privileged to be able to present Bob Bennett in concert. Many of us have been big fans of Bob's for years. He first hit the contemporary Christian music scene in 1979 with his First Things First album. Three years later came Matters of the Heart, a recording Contemporary Christian Music Magazine voted 1982's "Album of the Year," ranking it among the top 20 contemporary Christian albums of all time. Bob has since toured with folks like Amy Grant, Michael Card and others.
"I think that accomplishing some sort of ministry by playing music is a completely faulty, frail method that God still manages to use," Bob says, "To me, my primary goal is to communicate truthfully with people. If I can communicate truthfully the life of the spirit and the always accompanying struggle along the way, then ministry happens as a natural result of that."
Bob's acoustic folk-style recordings have honestly confronted the messy side of human existence over the years. But those who have discovered his depth, wit, honesty and musicianship consider him to be one of Christian music's foremost songwriters. His classic tunes "Matters of the Heart," "Man of the Tombs," "A Song about Baseball" and others reveal a songwriting proficiency unmatched among his peers.
Sept. 12 — Songs for Danny, 4:30 PM
This September 12, we will gather for our sixth annual "Songs for Danny" concert. The concert was first held to aid one of our members (Danny Sullivan) with medical expenses incurred for treatment of cancer. Danny was there for the first one, but he went home to be with the Lord the next year.
Danny had a great heart for the mission of the church, so we decided to continue holding the concert each year to take a special offering for missions. The event has grown and expanded into a picnic as well and is a special time for all of us. We will have a small group of local musicians including Danny's daughter, Chrissie Dalton (see above) to provide the music that evening.
Last year we instituted the Danny Sullivan Mission Fund which is used to give mission-ships to any lay people embarking on short-term, Christian mission trips. If you, or anyone you know, is planning to serve in this way and would like to apply for a "Missionship," please contact Smith Chapel.
Our "Songs for Danny" Picnic and Concert will begin with some great food at 4:30 PM. The food is free, and the music inspiring. Please be prepared for a free-will offering for the Danny Sullivan Mission Fund that will be taken during the concert.
Come join in the fun and fellowship! No reservations are required.
