Local Shopkeeper Spotlight: Platinum Stitch
Anyone who's ever been a smoker knows that if you're in a restaurant waiting for your meal, the food is certain to be brought to the table the instant you light a cigarette. You waste a perfectly good cigarette, but at least you finally get your food.
My smoking days are years in the past, back when you could smoke at the dinner table inside a restaurant, in fact, but I still remember that prophecy.
So when I was trying to get pregnant, I had this funny feeling that the instant I dropped $200+ on that pair of designer jeans, I'd see a little pink plus sign on my next test. It seemed worth the risk - perhaps I'd waste a wad of cash, but that expense would be so minor in contrast to the thrill of getting I really wanted.
Oh yeah, I am superstitious about some crazy things!!
Anyway, it happened. I bought the jeans, took the tags off, laundered them, and..... tested positive on my next pregnancy test. I knew I had a few more months of squeezing into the jeans, though, so I went ahead and had them altered.
Platinum Stitch in Dodona Manor came recommended, so I walked on over with my jeans and a pair heels that I knew I'd be wearing with the jeans. Delia sent me to a changing room where I pulled on the jeans, and she had me step up on a pedestal in front of a mirror in the shop. Delia worked quickly, asked me my preference for the break (where the hem hits the foot), drew some simple chalk lines, and had me changing out of the jeans again in less than two minutes.
Delia doesn't just hem. She detaches the hem of the jeans, shortens the leg, and re-attaches the hem. So it doesn't look like you just folded the pants under and ironed on some hem tape. It looks like the jeans were sewn at that length in the first place. Impeccable! And if you've paid hundreds for the jeans in the first place, you want them to look just as good as the day you bought them. And they do!
Now if only Delia could tailor them into maternity jeans...
