    Mt. Zion UMC Hamilton Celebrates 130th Anniversary
    Congratulations to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Hamilton for celebrating 130 years. To join in this celebration, attend the upcoming anniversary events.

    • Memorial Walk and Program - Friday, August 12, 7:00 pm: This event will take place at the church, 250 W. Virginia Ave in Hamilton. The walk will begin at 7:00 pm, followed by a program at 8:00 pm featuring Rev. Jeffrey Johnson and the Howard Minsitry Choir.

    • Morning Anniversary Service - Sunday, August 14, 11:00 am: Mt. Zion will have a joint service with Willisville Chapter, held at the church in Hamilton. There will be lunch following the morning service.

    • Afternoon Anniversary Service - Sunday, August 14, 5:00 pm: Rev. Joe B. Fleming and Choir, Third Street Baptist of Portsmount, Virgnia, will be the featured afternoon speaker.

    All are invited to attend this joyous occassion!

    Loudoun Douglass Annual Picnic
    The Loudoun Douglass Alumni Association (LDAA) held its annual picnic on Saturday, July 9. During this day full of fun and fellowship, the organization honored the Class of 1961 and presented each member with a plaque commemorating their 50 years.

    Recipients of the Loudoun Douglass Alumni Scholarships were announced as well. This year the LDAA gave 16 scholarships in total, eight from the organization, one from the Class of 1961, one from Sheila Bryant Coates, one from Walter Maxwell Bryant, two from Anne Daye and three from Joseph Peterson.

    Scholarship recipients:

    • Albani Childs – Virginia Commonwealth University

    • Jazmine Crabbe-Harris – University of North Carolina at Pembroke

    • Bronson Criales – ITT Tech

    • Bryan Crittenton II – Johnson and Wells University

    • Joseph Daye – Fork Union Military Academy

    • Amber Evans – Northern Virginia Community College

    • Johnnaca Greene – Virginia Union University

    • Charnele Hearns – Norfolk State University

    • Teyon Hearns – Tidewater Community College

    • RaShawnda Howard – J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College

    • Desmin Hughes – Johnson C. Smith University

    • Brittany Nelson – Old Dominion University

    • India Payne – George Mason University

    • Aaron Scott – American Career Institute

    • Paloma Simms – Auburn University

    • Brittany Thomas – Virginia State University

    The Gifts Within!
    Second Mount Olive Baptist Church of Hamilton will be sponsoring “The Gifts Within” – the First Annual Family Entertainment Night to be held Saturday, July 9, at 6:00 pm. This event will be held at Tuscarora High School, 801 North King Street in Leesburg. Come out and enjoy this night full of family fun, featuring choirs, praise dancers, soloists, musical performances, dramatic presentations and much more! The MC of this event will be Rev. Rickey Jasper of First Mount Olive Baptist Church of Leesburg and there will be a special welcome by the Mayor of Leesburg, Kristen Umstattd.
