A Blood Drive for Joey, Mystery Theatre

When Joey Angel asked for a blood drive for his birthday, a friend of his mother knew just what to do—organize one.

Joey, a Potomac Falls resident, will be eight years old on March 24. He has severe aplastic anemia and is awaiting a bone marrow transplant. In the meantime, blood transfusions are helping him stay alive.

Pat Wirth, the President and CEO of Potomac Falls ExpressLube & Car Wash, is hosting a “Joey’s Angels Blood Drive” at her shop on Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“His mother and I are friends,” she said. “And since March is Red Cross month and I am a member of the Loudoun County Leadership Council for the American Red Cross, we thought this was match made in ‘heaven’ (pun intended).”

Pat is hoping that many folks in the community will step up to the plate on Joey’s birthday. “I need 75 donors on the 24th,” she said. “Inova is sending two buses.”

And Pat is throwing a bit of a party herself. All donors will receive a $20 gift card from her shop and a piece of Joey’s birthday cake from Chantel’s Cakes & Pastries of Sterling. In addition, donors are eligible to win prizes that will be given out throughout the day.

To register to participate in the blood drive, contact Pat at 703-444-8600 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Online registration is available at inova.org/donateblood. Click on the yellow Donate Blood button and use the sponsor code 7885.

When you arrive on Saturday, allow one hour for your donor visit. Remember that a photo ID is required. Donors 16 years of age must present a signed Inova Blood Donor Services parental/guardian consent form before donating.

Potomac Falls ExpressLube & Car Wash is located at 45995 Denizen Drive in Potomac Falls.

Happy birthday, Joey.
