River Creek Blog: Just South of 7

No, Just South of 7 is not a location – it’s a band. On Friday from 6:30-10 p.m., this Leesburg-based group will be performing in the Chesapeake Room at the River Creek Clubhouse. The band specializes in everything from classical to rock with some apparent detours into country and rhythm and blues. No charge for club members. Guests pay a small $5 fee. Make a reservation by calling (703) 779-2022 or emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

According to its bio, the six-member band got its start around 2007 on a snowy day in February. John Ronis and Chris Ellinghaus began accumulating band members with a sense of humor -- they asked Mike Keim to “pick up the bass guitar. So Mike picked it up. He said it was quite heavy.” They celebrated Mike’s 40th birthday on his 41st birthday. Once together they “hit the road” by “going back and forth between each other’s homes.”

They initially named themselves ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) because they kept interrupting the songs they were playing with a new song.

Swim team opportunities

The River Creek Club has announced registration is open for The Stratford Sea Otters swim team. Ages 5-18 are welcome as long as they can “swim one length of the pool unaided.” Mini Otters, ages 3-7, only have to complete “one length of the pool by the end of the season.” With questions or to register, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). The schedule of competitive meets and time trials can be found at stratfordseaotters.org. Team member practice has been scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Lansdowne Summer Concert Series

It’s hard to believe that we are on the threshold of summer. The band The Real Geniuses, which specializes in 1980s classics, will kick-off the summer concert season on May 28 from 7-9 p.m. at the Potomac Club in Lansdowne. The group will be performing at the outdoor amphitheater, so the club encourages those attending to “grab your blankets and lawn chairs.” For information on reservations and ticketing call (571) 333-1212.
