Sterling Blog: Envision change

Have you sat around and thought, “Gosh, I have a great idea to help my community,” and had no idea who to tell. Your friendly neighborhood columnist is here to help. The fact is that in order to create change, you have to be the change. Creating change is not a spectator sport—and all of us could be less on the sidelines and more in the game. And Envision Loudoun, a county-sponsored group plan, gives all of us the chance to be in the starting line-up.

Envision Loudoun is tasked with developing a new Comprehensive Plan for the county. Next month, they're holding five workshops where you can meet with other concerned citizens, share ideas and work together to make Loudoun even better.

Without a strong Sterling showing, our voices will not be heard and the things we want done in this community won’t happen.

To get involved with Envision Loudoun, all you have to do is go to the website at envision-loudoun.org and register for one of the workshops. That’s all. In fact the one at 7 p.m. June 7 is just across Route 7 at the Cascade Senior Center.

Close to home, May 19 is Park View’s prom. If you see our local students looking dapper out and about, be sure to wish them well and “oooh” and “ahhh” over the dresses. As a girl who went to prom a bazillion years ago, trust me, we love that stuff.

Also this weekend at our favorite community center is the Spring Carnival. The event runs from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. with an admission of just $4. Kids under 2 are free. There will be games, bounce houses and activities that will tire out your child enough so you can take a much-needed afternoon nap. For more information, call the Sterling Community Center, 120 Enterprise St., at 703-430-9480.

However, if your kids still have some energy left after all that, our beloved Sterling Library is hosting a Family Fun: Mad Science of Washington from 2:30-3:30 p.m. This fun event for kids ages kindergarten through fifth grade will show your kid how much fun science can be with hands-on experiments.

A belated Happy Moms Day to all our Sterling moms, grandmoms, godmoms, and those who act like moms to our community.
