Sterling Blog: The Impossible Dream

Some musicals are just classics. You can hear a piece of a song, and you may not know the story or the entire show, but you know it. It’s part of our common fabric. “Man of La Mancha” is like that. Though, you might not be able to tell me the full plot, I bet if I started singing “The Impossible Dream” you would join in by the second chorus. It’s no wonder that this show won five Tony Awards - including Best Musical - when it premiered in 1966.

In just a week, our hometown theatre company, the Sterling Playmakers, will present one of their most ambitious productions to date, “Man of La Mancha.” This timeless musical opens in a dungeon as Miguel Cervantes is put on “trial” to defend his most treasured possession, a manuscript, from his fellow prisoners. His defense is presented as a play as Cervantes becomes Don Quixote de la Mancha and tells of his enemy, The Enchanter, and his one true love, Dulcinea. In addition to “The Impossible Dream, you’ll be singing “Little Bird” and “I Really Like Him” as you leave the threatre. It’s important to note that because of adult themes, this musical might not be suitable for all audiences.

The play opens Nov. 10, at Seneca Ridge Middle School, 98 Seneca Ridge Drive in Sterling. It runs Fridays and Saturdays (Nov. 10, 11, 17 and 18) at 8 p.m. and Sundays (Nov. 12 and 19) at 2 p.m. The show on Nov. 11 will be sign interpreted by HISsign. Tickets are available for $15 online at http://www.sterlingplaymakers.com or at the door prior to showtime. You can also learn more about the show at the Playmakers’ website.

Every family has a recipe that everyone loves that is a go-to for special occasions and family dinners alike. In my family, it’s my mom’s Pound Cake Baked Ziti. I named it this because it’s pretty much a pound of this and a pound of that - just like a pound cake. If I ever am called upon to bring you a meal, you can pretty much count on getting this baked ziti.

I bet your family has one of these recipes too. And, like me, you should submit it to the Sterling Park Cookbook. Simply type out your recipe and email it to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). When it all completed, our neighborhood will have a whole book of family favorites, just from our Sterling Park family. The best part, you get to have my mom baked ziti anytime you want wiithout even getting sick.
I looking for businesses in Sterling that have a story to tell.
