Timing is everything

The folks who live in River Creek have the good fortune to be in the proximity of supermarkets and shops of various kinds that provide necessities and, well maybe, some unnecessities. For example, it takes seven minutes of driving time from River Creek to reach Wegmans and the Village of Leesburg; eight-and-a-half minutes to Costco, Target and the Battlefield Shopping Center. Depending on traffic no more than nine minutes to the Leesburg Outlets, Home Depot and less than that to the new Dairy Queen. You can stretch your trip by going to Lansdowne Town Center in 10 to 12 minutes.

The question is when is the best time to go to these places to avoid the crowds and what particular features facilitate shopping. I’ve just completed an extensive survey involving a select group of one or two people. After detailed research we found the most favorable time to go to Costco is at 10 a.m. on Monday, although there is less in the way of free food samples. So it depends on your priorities. Thursday between 3 and 4 p.m. is the least crowded at Wegmans. For convenience sake after visiting Costco you can hop over to Target.

Most supermarkets have self checkout. I’ve never quite gotten the hang of those. The question is what to do with a bag of apples or a bunch of bananas. I would have to get time consuming help and rather than waste time, I would rather spend relaxing moments standing in line at the personal checkout counter visiting with someone in front of me who has two carts loaded with sundries and usually a problem with their credit card requiring managerial assistance. But stores that have 10 items or less express lines are the most efficient in my opinion. Once I had 12 items and so I took two back; checked out with the remaining 10; took them to the car; then returned and picked up the other two items and checked out again.

Timing is everything.
