“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and much grace was upon them all” (Acts 4:32-33).
On September 18th, Christ Community Church (CCC) held a joyful, celebratory dedication ceremony as it moved into its new, permanent home in Ashburn. Christ Community Church is a Christ-centered, biblically based evangelical church, and committed to sharing and demonstrating the love, forgiveness and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Since 1995, the Lord has been leading CCC in its commitment to authentic relationships, biblical teaching, and genuine worship that lead people to a personal faith in Jesus Christ. The church was planted in Ashburn as an extension of Cherrydale Baptist Church in Arlington, VA, with the blessing and prayers of Cherrydale’s Pastor Steve King and a small contingent of families that would eventually grow the church as Ashburn began growing its community developments in the 1990’s.
Since the church’s beginnings, Pastor Jeff Good, a local northern Virginia native, die-hard Redskins fan, and baseball fanatic, has guided the people of CCC to become equipped to live by the teaching of Christ, and challenged them to demonstrate the love of Christ to those neighbors in and around the community. Through an uplifting contemporary worship service, biblically-centered sermons and Sunday schools, and a host of children’s and youth ministries, CCC has reached into the local Ashburn community and stretched across the globe to serve others and reflect God’s love.
Starting with just 10 families in 1995, the Lord has grown the congregation and generously provided resources, finances and ministries. For the past sixteen years, CCC met in various temporary locations and school gymnasiums in Ashburn and Sterling and even in coffee shops and parking lots at times! The church spent the better part of the past dozen years in the gymnasium at Sanders Corner Elementary School in Ashburn. It has made a top priority of smaller “home groups” meetings throughout the week in private residences, for deeper fellowship and sharing. Maintaining a strong mission presence with ties to permanent missionaries in Japan, India, and Europe and in Muslim nations, CCC has regularly sent members representing temporary missionaries across the globe for short and long term opportunities to spread the Good News of Christ.
The year 2011 continued to bring incredible events to CCC. Following the winter snowstorms, the church “set up and tore down” their temporary equipment at Sanders Corner one last time, loading their trailer for a final haul to their new permanent location a few miles away, on Red Rum Drive in Ashburn. Securing the facility took much time and prayer over the last few years. In the end, a brand-new sanctuary had been built, in a new building, with adjoining classrooms, children’s and youth wings, office space, conference rooms, and an open, home-style foyer to greet attendees in a welcoming setting each week.
But there was little time to bask in the joy of the new spaces. While getting settled into the new facility, the church’s youth group “SoulFire” headed downtown to Washington DC to serve hot drinks and deliver clothes to the homeless on the city’s streets. Some of the church’s young adults completed mission trips to Kenya, Ukraine, Ireland and India, and prepared for service in Guatemala and South Africa. SoulFire is a ministry to students in the Ashburn area that introduces kids to Jesus through retreats, events, small groups, youth group meetings, and Sunday morning teaching.
The church began preparations to send a large contingent of adults and youth to Ethiopia. This group spent their summer weeks serving the children of AIDS victims with a “road show” vacation bible study program. Also through the summer, the church’s youth reached out again to needy folks in western Virginia, partnering with the Teens Opposing Poverty organization and their Impact the Valley projects. While many from the church were serving in Ethiopia, remaining members hosted the Adventure Club and “Awesome August Nights” faith programs for local children here in Ashburn.
Earlier this year, the adults and families of CCC teamed together with members of the Common Ground Church in Leesburg to provide a hearty lunch for the 7th annual Good Shepherd Alliance Walk for Shelter. The coordinated church teams served those who were walking to raise awareness and funds to help combat homelessness in Loudoun County.
God was hard at work using the folks at CCC this year! But finally, on September 18th, it was time for the church to pause, rest, and celebrates its new location. A vibrant, packed service of lively song and prayer, attended by members, supporters, family and friends, ushered the people of Christ Community Church into their long awaited home. Tearful, thankful hugs and expressions of joy were shared by all, and praise was given to God for his faithful shepherding of CCC throughout the years.
What is next for CCC? According to Pastor Jeff Good, it is time for the church to take to heart what Joshua told the nation of Israel as they prepared to cross the Jordan River into the new land God had prepared for them. “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” (Joshua 3:5)

The Adult Ministry at CCC supports both married and single adults in the community. It is comprised of SOUL (Studies on Uncompromised Living) – some people call it “Sunday school” – Men’s Ministry, and Women’s Ministry. Through activities that meet the spiritual, social and community needs of CCC’s members and friends, men and women are provided with opportunities to serve one another, build friendships, study, form accountability and have fun.
CCC loves the descriptive picture of the first Christians in the Book of Acts living in true community, and strives to have its Adult Ministries mirror this. The members of CCC do not call their gifts their own, but bring them to the church body, whether that be through leading a ministry, teaching an adult or children’s class, or sharing their musical talent at a breakfast or retreat.
According to Pastor Jeff Good, “You, me and Christ, living life together. That’s truly what CCC is about. Though our worship times are warm and uplifting, it’s much more than Sunday morning. It’s caring about each other…24/7/365. It’s sharing God’s love…and making it real in each other’s lives. And it’s serving the Ashburn community…through events, outreach and simply by being good neighbors.”
If you are searching for a church home, please come and visit Christ Community Church for worship on Sundays at 9:30 am.
