Dear Facebook

I may come across as that social networking tycoon always looking for the next big thing out there. I blog, I tweet, I Facebook and I’m basically glued to my Blackberry. But, when it comes to changing something that I’ve perfected to a complete science, I’m not a happy camper.

The whole deal with Facebook is that it’s trying to be the next big thing with all these changes. What I don’t think Facebook realizes is is that it is the next big thing. It’s how people get their news, it’s how new connections are made, catching up with old friends and family - it’s a new-age stalking device.

Upon arriving at working a do a number of things. I check my voice mail. I check my email. I do a lot of checking of mail-related things. I load up our website, monitor comments, sign into Twitter and Facebook to see what my friends are saying about their days. It’s actually a good source in finding stories for me. Because people like to complain, as I’ve already stated, but they also like to complain a lot on Facebook and Twitter. And that’s how a lot of stories start, by complaining.

Now, with this whole revamped Facebook, in ways I don’t even comprehend, I can’t find status updates of my friends, but instead I’m bombarded by updates from people who are my friends on Facebook, but who I rarely interact with, they’re just there for fun - we all have them. What is this subscribing factor? Why am I signed up for it? How did this happen? Why does the layout look so much like Google+? I don’t even understand Google+ and the fact that anyone can be my friend without my permission. How do those people find me?!

Also what bothers me is that I’m writing an entire blog post about how much the Facebook change infuriates me.

What are these tabs in the corner of each story on the news feed? You can mark it important or unimportant? How can I decide? I feel like everything on Facebook is something I need to know.  I mean why do I need recent stories running on the middle of the screen with a sidebar of the same information? I just don’t get the point.

But maybe it’ll work out. Facebook’s new set up might make my life easier and soon be able to read my mind. Then the world we be taken over by robots and an organization called Skynet. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to find John Connor now, so I can join the resistance.
