Laura Peters - bear enthusiast
photoLook how cute he is! My mom snapped this photo out of the window in our kitchen.

Alright so maybe I’m a bit obsessed with those cute, cuddly bears. But, what can I say? They are adorable! You just want to go on a picnic with them, like that book Teddy Bears’ Picnic that came with the vinyl record in the back that you could play along when you read. My mom said it was the most disturbing book because all these bears were acting like humans and eating together - it just seemed odd to her. Me, on the other hand, I loved it. I wanted to go on that teddy bear picnic.

I also had a deep connection with Corduroy the bear. All he ever wanted was to find his button! A button! Poor guy ...

Finally, my dreams have been answered. Yesterday, a black bear, who’s been spotted in our neighborhood, made it’s appearance to my family, of course while I was at work and had already been in the neighborhood to pick up pictures of the bear from a neighbor, I missed the little guy by about 20 minutes. Obviously I was crushed. I missed my chance to let him know how much I wanted to be his friend.

My mom got some really great shots of the bear eating out of our bird feeder. My dad, overly excited about the bear, tried to get video of him, but forgot to turn the camera on. Silly, dad ...

When I arrived home, my mom was on the phone with Channel 9. They were going to come over an interview her about her bear situation. Delia Goncalves and her crew came by our Leesburg home and interviewed my mom, then turned to me to be interviewed. Since I’m such a bear enthusiast, they put me on the news. They even took shots of my totem pole tattoo which has a bear on it. Crazy. And my parents said having tattoos wouldn’t get me anywhere in life ...

Moral of the story, be obsessed with something enough, your dreams might come true. If not, you can always tattoo it on your body and hope the news picks it up.

Note: There may be some sarcasm in this blog.
