Sunday evening, November 21, marks the date of the second annual Western Loudoun Community-wide Thanksgiving Service. This year’s service is facilitated by Tree of Life Ministries, in association with local churches, non- profit organizations, schools, local government representatives, volunteer groups, businesses, and the media.

Tree of Life, a ministry of Purcellville Baptist Church, is a community outreach organization staffed by volunteers, helping needy people throughout Western Loudoun. The most active ministry to date within the Tree of Life umbrella has been the Food Pantry, but steps have been taken to roll out additional ‘Branches’ of outreach including Life Skills, Shelter, Healthcare, and Relief. The Purpose of Tree of Life is simply to reach out to the poor and needy in our community with the message of Jesus Christ: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

The Thanksgiving service will be held from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. at Purcellville Baptist Church, 601 Yaxley Drive in Purcellville. All are welcome. In cooperation with of Tree of Life’s Food Pantry, those attending are invited to bring non-perishable food items for distribution.

Building on last year’s theme of honoring Loudoun’s schools and principals, this year’s plan calls for recognizing the Police and Fire departments, plus the Emergency and Rescue teams of all western Loudoun jurisdictions. Many representatives of these local services will attend in uniform, giving citizens an opportunity to express thanks to God for the service they render, as well as saying “thank you” in person. A community offering will be received and will go in its entirety to these service organizations.

At last year’s Thanksgiving Service, some 17 churches and non-profit ministries from various sectors of western Loudoun County were represented. This year’s list is expected to include at least 40 ministries, as additional churches, non-profit organizations, businesses, and various municipal leaders have indicated their intention to attend.
