Operation Homefront
Vivian Dietrich of River Creek is president of the DC Metro chapter of Operation Homefront, an organization that “provides emergency assistance for military troops, the families they leave behind, and the wounded warriors when they return home.” According to references the ‘Homefront’ was founded in 2001and has since served the needs of over 257,000 military families.
Vivian has been a resident of River Creek for the past eight years and has devoted herself to this organization. She first got involved in Operation Homefront in August of 2007 and with the help of several other River Creek residents formed what became known as the DC Metro Chapter. Her husband, Max, is in the military and has been deployed to Panam, Grenada, Haiti and the Balkans. He was in the Pentagon on that fateful day, September 11, 2001.
She was living in Alexandria at the time and…”I surfed the news channels, when suddenly I heard a rumble, our house shook and I reached for the phone and called Max, the line was dead. Staring at the television, in moments images of the burning Pentagon appeared his office on fire..”
Max survived and continues today in the service of his country. He has had two tours in Iraq.
In memory of the events on September 11th, the DC Metro Chapter of Operation Homefront has organized a Freedom Walk. Everyone is welcome to assemble at the Women in Service for America Memorial located on Memorial Drive at the entrance to Arlington Cemetery.
