Loudoun Lyric Opera will hold auditions from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 25 in Leesburg for Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Ruddigore.”
Tenors, baritones and basses are needed for principal and supporting roles.
Rehearsals begin the week of Aug. 23 and will be held up to three days a week in Leesburg and Sterling. Performances will be Oct. 29-Nov. 4 at the Franklin Park Arts Center in Purcellville.
Principal performers will receive stipend compensation. College credit from Northern Virginia Community College is available for choristers.
‘Something Hot.’ Artists living within a 75-mile radius of Leesburg are invited to submit artwork to the annual “Something Hot” show at ArtSquare.
Artists may submit two pieces of original work. The entry fee is $25.
Entries will be accepted at the galleries on Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The exhibit will be judged that afternoon, and the winner will be chosen at p.m.
The exhibit will be on display in the galleries at ArtSquare Aug. 13-27. A reception will be Aug. 13.

Amateur and student photographers from Loudoun and surrounding counties are invited to participate in the ‘Beautiful World’ Photography Contest and Show at the Round Hill Arts Center.
The exhibit will be on display from July 15 to August 1. The submission deadline is July 9.
Photographs must be no larger than 16-by-20 inches in size, including mat and frame.
Photographs celebrating beautiful and interesting aspects of the world are welcome.
A panel of student and professional photographers will judge entries on technique, quality, composition and lighting. Awards for first, second and third place will be presented at the opening reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 15.
The cost is $5 per entry. There is a limit of three submissions per entrant.

The Sterling Playmakers hold open auditions Sunday, May 23, and Tuesday, May 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cascades Senior Center for a “Rockin’ on Broadway” musical revue. The show’s rehearsals will take place Saturday mornings beginning June 5 at Claude Moore Community Center. The revue takes the stage in October. Singers should prepare 16 bars of a standard musical ballad and 16 bars of an upbeat rock or light rock song. The cast will include male and female parts (minimum age 14) and will range from four to 12 singers and four to six dancers with some crossover possible. Piedmont Regional Art Show and Sale
Artists of all levels of experiences are invited to apply to exhibit original works at the Piedmont Regional Art Show and Sale in The Plains.
The exhibit will be on display May 7-9. The postmark deadline for entry forms is April 20. Finished works are due May 5. Works of art in all media are welcomed.
Out of the Ordinary
Regional artists and craftspeople are invited to participate in “Out of the Ordinary,” a creative challenge exhibition sponsored by Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center in collaboration with WebFabrics of Purcellville.
To enter “Out of the Ordinary,” create an artistic work using all or part of a “fat quarter” of fabric donated by WebFabrics. Any medium is eligible and encouraged. The only condition is that the fat quarter from WebFabrics must be used in the piece. Fabric may be manipulated, shredded, coiled, braided, glued, painted, etc., and any other materials may be be used along with the fat quarter.
A cash prize of $300 will be awarded for Best in Show. The winner of the Most Innovative Work award will receive a complete set of fat quarters in 360 colors from the Collection of Hoffman Bali Batiks, an $800 value donated by WebFabrics.
