‘Harold and Kumar’s 3D Christmas’ (R)

It’s too soon for a holiday movie, but too late for a Harold and Kumar sequel.

It’s been seven years since the first Harold and Kumar movie. Now, after Kal Penn’s strangely random sojourn in the White House, the pair are back for a third installment.

A little bit older, Harold and Kumar are still unapologetically stoned (the drug references go way over the top) and tragically unlucky (how do you accidentally shoot Santa Claus?)

Even so, this third installment suffers for its age and seems to be trying just a little too hard to be cool. It’s missing the original’s unexpected brilliance and in its defiant attempt to stay relevant, it does cross a line here and there.

Like your own embarrassing friends, you still love them. It’s just you realize they aren’t nearly as funny once you get a little older.

Even so, this latest offering maintains some genuine laughs, which remain unique and unsanitized compared to your typical Hollywood release.

But whatever shortcomings the film might have, the 3D is impressive and includes every funny effect a college freshman might imagine.

Once I received a call offering me a decent sum to turn for a pianist for a chamber music concert. I was pleased to finally get paid for something I’d been doing pro bono for years. I got there early and met with the pianist. He seemed high-strung but some people are before a concert. I clarified repeat issues with him and he assured me he was a clear nodder. The concert began and I soon saw why he was so high-strung; his mediocre technique and limited musicality made him a bad choice to play the well-known Beethoven and Brahms trios he was tackling (almost literally, football player style). We got towards the end of the first page and he did not nod. I figured,  Maybe he likes memorize the beginning of the next page and have late turns. Nope as we reached the last two beats he abruptly turned his heard toward me and, in a low, gruff voice barked,  Turn!  This disagreeable ritual was repeated for most of the performance. I thought it might have been less disruptive for him and the audience to nod as he said. No such luck. I made it through and didn’t mess it up, but he really unnerved me and I dare say I was very deserving of my pay that evening.

This movie is   This movie is specially made in 3D to make fun of all the 3D crap they usually put in movies, I’m assuming. That’s why pop out effects are abused.

Damn, the this …  Damn, the this trailer is friggin’ awesome   I loved the previous 2 H&K films but this is seems like true epicness in the making. And a child on coke, wtf! Finally a scene that superpasses the Donkey from “The Bachelor Party”! I never lol on comedy trailers but this one gave me tears in my eyes! And Neil Patrick Harris rocks every single scene in this trailer.

I saw 2 bald eglaes up close on Sunday morning while playing golf at 1757 Golf Club in Dulles.  The larger of the 2 was perched on the same tree for many hours, but I only saw the smaller of the 2 for a few moments. Also witnessed a huge male woodpecker from about 30 feet on a nearby tree!
