It’s finally arrived, the movie every little fanboy has been dreaming of and speculating about since childhood. We were all certain that an Avengers movie would never come … and if it did then the movie would be tragically bad.
But, with successful versions of Marvel Comics’ different franchises, the excitement kept growing. And sure enough, “The Avengers” movie finally arrived – and it delivered on years on anticipation.
Director Joss Wheton (“Firefly,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) demonstrates his unique ability to manage a large cast while somehow keeping the plot moving and giving each of the characters their due.
There are some problems given the number of characters and the back story required to pull them together. For that reason, the film drags a bit at the beginning as it is forced to push through the exposition. However, once the roller coaster starts, you’ll forget all of it.
Accessible to non-comic fans, the movie truly pays off for those who’ve followed Marvel’s other movies. The action moves throughout and the heroes are portrayed as having human frailties throughout.
And yes, it’s also filled with funny moments as well – although none better than the Hulk finally getting the treatment the green-skinned rage-monster deserves.
- John Geddie is still waiting for the “Ant-Man and Wasp” movie.
Opening; “Dark Shadows”
