One of the tricks in dining is finding out where the locals go. Visiting the South Riding Inn, I think I’ve found them.
A relatively small venue and split between restaurant and sports bar, the South Riding Inn hosts a regular Sunday crowd which gathers around the friendly bar watching the games on the large screen TVs. There’s a sense of competitive camaraderie that many sports bars only aspire to.
Serving sizes are generous. The smothered sirloin is a great example – a large plate overflowing with sauteed onions and mushrooms. Start the meal off with the South Riding piglets, a hot dog wrapped in a cheese-filled breading. You’ll be hard pressed not to order another and make it your meal. Be sure to check out the brunch menu as well. They make a mean French toast. While South Riding Inn makes for a pleasant visit, reconsider making it a family stop during major football games where the noise from the bar area overflows into the restaurant section. Even so, if you’re looking for a friendly place to watch the game, the South Riding Inn might be the ticket.
