During this fall and winter we have experienced some upsetting events and activities. I would like to use this time to mention some very positive acts of kindness and thoughtfulness that some young and older residents have done during my observations.
First, I would like to mention a middle school girl who stood up for a bullied young man against her peers. This was told to me by the boy’s mother. She told me he had been bullied at every school he attended. What courage this young lady displayed in front of her peers.
Next, I have had numerous drivers stop and let me go across in front of them while I have been out on the streets and roads of Leesburg and Loudoun. Three cheers for those who were polite and not in such a rush.
Thirdly, I want to point out a wise and intelligent young man who I know very well and what he said about the displays on the courthouse lawn a year ago. He said that county officials should eliminate all displays because he felt the displays in the future might become distasteful and offensive to the general public. A year later, look at some of the displays that were on the lawn this year.
It is a sign of changing times. I was in third grade when prayer in the schools was made illegal by one woman. At the time my school classmates were very upset so many years ago.
There are a lot of very kind, peaceful and caring people in our community and communities all over the world.
