    Letters to the Editor

Our country remains sharply divided along political lines. I think we can do better than attacking each other, and in order to bring some clarity to the fray my understanding of the Democratic Party and Democratic values follows.

Democrats are inclusive. They see all people as part of our human family, and welcome all.

Democrats believe in compromise, and believe that we all do better when we cooperate and work together.

Democrats believe in the Golden Rule.

Democrats believe that our economy grows from the hard working middle class, and doesn’t trickle down from the rich. They believe in private enterprise and the free market system, but they also believe that reasonable regulations are needed to stop abuses that pervert our free market, like those that led to the Great Recession of 2008, while still leaving a level playing field to encourage profit and competition. They believe in the right for workers to bargain collectively, as long as they are not preventing others from working, or stopping an essential service . They believe that employers should keep American jobs here in America.

Democrats believe in a balanced budget through a balance of spending cuts and revenue enhancement.

Democrats believe in protecting the environment so that we and future generations can live in the same world that the Creator made for us.

Democrats believe that basic health care should be available to every American, as well as food, clothing, a safe place to live, and the opportunity to get ahead in life.

Democrats believe that education enhances our lives and our country’s well being, and feel that government should promote education.

Democrats believe in keeping our country safe with a strong military, a strong economy, being a good neighbor to the rest of the world, promoting freedom, and providing help to countries that need it.

Democrats believe in individual freedoms, including the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment, but they do not believe that assault weapons, and machine guns should be available, other than to law enforcement and military personnel.

Democrats believe in women’s rights, including the right to choose.

Democrats believe that our seniors deserve the social security and medicare that they paid for while working.

Democrats believe that people should be able to love who they want to love, and that bond should be legally recognized.

Finally, Democrats believe in America, and see a bright future for all of us.

    Bill Limpert

    Warm Sorings, Va.

    1. I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I’ve decided to marry my German Shepherd.
    2. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.
    3. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
    4. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
    5. I voted Democrat because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.
    6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don’t start driving a Prius.
    7. I voted Democrat because I’m not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
    8. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take away the social security from those who paid into it.
    9. I voted Democrat because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.
    10. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
    11. I voted Democrat because I think that it’s better to pay billions for their oil to people who hate us, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish.
    12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my #$%$ it’s unlikely that I’ll ever have another point of view.

You both keep telling the same, tired stories - yawn.

Are you likewise upset with Christie in NJ for working with President Obama while complaining about lack of bi-partisanship?  The true leader Obama took responsibility and led by example.  Who had to buy $5000 worth of Walmart canned goods to fabricate an appearance of caring at a pseudo-donation event (victory rally complete with photo op, Romney campaign videos)?  Was it in honor of Halloween - a masquerade? Monetary donations to the Red Cross would have been a better option, or MSNBC’s telethon to raise funds for Sandy victims.

“Obama has run his campaign on Mitt will be bad instead of any accomplishments.”  Did you tell that to Mayor Bloomberg and The Economist who most recently endorsed Obama?

“Democrats are inclusive. They see all people as part of our human family, and welcome all.”  Except for the unborn.

“Democrats believe that basic health care should be available to every American, as well as food, clothing, a safe place to live, and the opportunity to get ahead in life.”  So do Republicans… but we do expect you to buy your own basic health care, food and clothing, etc… just like we do.  As for opportunity, it’s there for everyone, just like it’s always been.

Let me get this straight, Democrates believe they can take all my hard earned money and give it to the needy so we can all get along. I’m glad I’m an Independent voter. I voted for change(Obama) in the last election. I won’t make that mistake again. He’s too busy blaming others. A true leader takes responsiblity and leads by example. Obama has run his campaign on Mitt will be bad instead of any accomplishments. Again, that’s so un-presidential…..

    Nice piece for Romney.
