    Gay couple considering lawsuit against Delgaudio’s Public Advocate
    photoSupervisor Eugene Delgaudio’s nonprofit group, Public Advocate of the United States, sent out this flyer to Republican voters in Colorado. Loudoun County Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) has again sparked outrage in the gay community, this time for the unauthorized use and alteration of a couple’s engagement photo.

    Delgaudio’s nonprofit group Public Advocate of the United States, which is designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-gay hate group, recently funded mailed flyers to voters of two Colorado state Senate races. The mailers used a New Jersey same-sex couple’s photo without their permission.

    Multiple media outlets, including the Denver Post, The Atlantic and LGBTQNation, have reported on the flyers.

    The couple, Brian Edwards and Tom Privitere, said Monday they’re considering legal action against Public Advocate, which was founded by Delgaudio in 1981. The Loudoun supervisor says his organization advocates for traditional families.

    The original picture, taken by photographer Kristina Hill, features Edwards and Privitere holding hands and kissing with New York City in the backdrop. One of the altered versions uses the same image of Edwards and Privitere but changes the backdrop to a snowy setting with pine trees and the verbiage, “State Senator Jean White’s version of ‘Family Values?’”

    White was squaring off last week against another Republican for her party’s nomination.

    On the couple’s wedding blog, Edwards commented on the situation. “I want to share what this picture means to me,” Edwards states. “It represents my first home away from home, my beloved NYC, which at the time this image was taken (two years ago) did not allow same sex couples to marry. It represents my long-term relationship with my best friend, my partner, and now husband – the love we share and obstacles we have overcome.”

    Commenting on Delgaudio’s altered version, Edwards said he’s in shock, hurt, flabbergasted and livid.

    Edwards and Privitere told LGBTQNation Magazine the use of their photo “is unjust” and they promise to do what they can “to make sure it doesn’t occur to other couples in the future, regardless of sexual orientation.”

    When reached by phone Monday, Delgaudio said he can’t verify he sent out the mailer, but he’s “checking on it.” Said the Sterling supervisor, “I don’t have time to respond to every allegation groups bring against me.”

    An image of one of the mailers posted in the Denver Post clearly shows the flyer was sent from Public Advocate of the United States.

    Monk - sue him for stealing a copyrighted image for his political gain, and for using their image in a manner which they did not consent to. How would you like it if someone dug through your family photos, stole an image of your little daughter and slapped her face on a pro-child porn ad? Additionally, copyright infringement carries up to a $32,000 PER IMAGE in the United States, therefore the photographer and couple have every right to defend their property.

    Sue for what? Outing them?

    Once again, Supervisor Delgaudio’s behavior has brought shame upon Loudoun County.  Delgaudio’s nonprofit group Public Advocate of the United States, which was designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center as an anti-gay hate group, sent hate mail to voters in two Colorado Senate races.  These flyers contained altered pictures of a New Jersey same-sex couple without their permission.  The source of these flyers has been verified by The Denver Post as coming from Delgaudio’s organization.

    This current Board of Supervisors has clearly stated it’s priority of creating a business friendly environment in Loudoun County in order to attract more more to our county.  The publicity generated by Supervisor Delgaudio is certainly not supportive of that aim.

    Hate-mongering is disgraceful in any context, but it must not be tolerated by the Board coming from one of it’s own members.  The Board has an ethical imperative to take action against this behavior, lest the citizens of Loudoun lose respect for it’s elected officials.

    I urge the Board to pass a resolution condemning Supervisor Delgaudio for unethical behavior.  It is crucial that the Board act.  As you consider what action to take, remember Edmund Burke’s quote, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

    The citizens of Loudoun have the right to expect the best of their elected officials.  It is the Board’s responsibility to show us their best in dealing with this matter.

    Oh and it is also nice to see the ignorant comparison of two consenting gay adults to people who rape animals, why not toss in a child rapist comparison while you are at it?

    Homosexuality is not illegal, having sex with animals is.

    It is hard to beleive some people still think being gay is a choice; then again they are normally they people who think science and dinosaurs are fake too.

    “debating any further with you would be like debating with a tree.”

    And wouldn’t _that_ be a sick and disgusting thing to see?

    You know, I think I can identify the exact time and date I became a member of the community of people who share my sexual orientation. It was near midnight, early October, 1958…

    @workinghard, please share with the group the story of how you chose to be heterosexual. When did you decide? What was it like?

    You sillypants :)

    The Hate Peddler strikes again.

    Anne Heche, Lindsay Lohan, are some examples of people experimenting with their sexuality. My kids know about homosexuality and they find it sick and disgusting as most children their own age do. It doesn’t make sense to them on why a man would want kiss another man or a woman would want to kiss another woman.
    Also, the argrument about being just happy holds no water either. What if someone wanted to be happy marrying their pet monkey. Is that ok too? You obviously have the left wing mentality and debating any further with you would be like debating with a tree.
    Congratulations on the health care ruling and happy dependence day.

    @workinghard

    The science behind your allegations of “switching teams” is unfounded and based on ignorance of those from right-wing Christianity. The overwhelming scientific evidence points to homosexuality as a biological inclination.

    But go ahead and ignore science.  I mean hard science facts have only shown that the Earth is round, the Earth is in orbit around the sun, our sun is only one of countless sun’s in the universe, and there are these tiny particles called atoms made of sub-atomic particles.

    Yep, go ahead and cling to your anecdotal and baseless preconceived notions.

    @workinghardtogetahead…...if your kids were shocked and dumbfounded it is because you have not provided them with a well-rounded education.  I am not saying you have to agree, but to assume that if you don’t talk about something with your kids means that it doesn’t exist is pretty stupid.  Sure hope you’ve had the birds and the bees talk with them because otherwise you are going to be in for a big surprise when they find out about that subject from someone other than you.  You can not protect your children from every single thing you find offensive.  What you can do is educate them so their ignorance doesn’t doom them.  Seriously if you think this is so shocking, how do you think the parents of daughters felt when they no longer received cattle or gifts in exchange for marrying off their daughters?!  I am thankful everyday that the idea of marriage changes…but I guess that’s only something a woman can ever really understand and be grateful for.

    I’m sick and tired of the comparison of Race and sexualality. A person born with a certain skin color should not be compared to ones choice in life. And don’t sit there and tell me that people are born gay, that argrument is like beating a dead horse. There are so many examples of people changing teams in both directions that there are too many to count. That debate doesn’t hold any water. Stop comparing race with choice. Many people of all colors resent it.

    You can dislike whoever you want. I am gay and know people have issues and I have issues with some groups but when you start making fools of people and hurt innocents, you who are in office better give a better answer than “I dont have time to look into it”. You better make time you fatheaded idiot. I do find it funny that someone in office, especially in this economy and higher priority issues climate in Lo.Co. and the whole US, manages to find time to butt into Co. elections. This is the type a person who I hopr opens the closet one day and finds their own son sitting, holding hands and smooching their boyfriend. Hey Eugene, how about the “harmless” illegals that took over Sterling and brought crime and gangs to our once safe city. Worry about your own bedroom and do your job you waste.

    @workinghard:

    What exactly is the liberal agenda? Is it that allowing 2 consenting adults the right to be with the person they love without reprisal or discrimination from the government? If so, where can I sign up for a membership?

    More specifically, sorry your kids were shocked, but that’s what happens in life. I remember I was shocked when I learned that not too long ago in our past, my African American friend wouldn’t have been allowed to attend the same school or even be friends with me. Often times, life shocks people and especially kids.  It happens, please get over it and move on from your hateful and discriminatory rhetoric.

    __

    Second time trying to post a comment.  Apparently the LTM won’t approve my comments but hateful ones like workinghardtogetahead’s gets through. Go figure.

    @workinghard:

    What exactly is the liberal agenda you speak of? Granting consenting the authority to love who they chose to without reprisal or discrimination?  If that is the liberal agenda you speak of, then consider me a member of it.

    And as to your children being shocked… that’s what happens in life. You may not approve, but its there and there is nothing legally or morally wrong with it. I’m shocked at all the bigots living in Loudoun and I’m mortified they are reproducing fast, but its not a crime to be ignorant either.

    Delgaudio is responsible for this picture getting more widespread viewing so your outrage, workhardgetahead, should be directed at him.  Like when Dick Black put porn up on screens in the library to get attention for his point of view.  If we had fewer zealots using hot button issues to further their own freeloading careers we’d all be better off.

    workhardgetahead - Same reason my parents and grandparents forced racist to confront their bigotry of blacks and interracial marriage; because bigotry is wrong.

    This stuff needs to be brought to the forefront of the debate. This photo is repulsive and disgusting. My kids saw this and were in shock and were dumfounded with 2 men kissing each other. This is another fine example of the liberal agenda being forced down our throat. Do what you want to do but don’t force me or my family look at it or force us to accept it.

    I strongly suspect that Ms. White’s opponent does not appreciate this sort of unsolicited “help.” At least that’s been the case with other out-of-state candidates. One of them, as I recall, had to send Mr. Delgaudio a cease and desist letter that said, in effect, “Stop sending mailers immediately, they are damaging my campaign.”

    Yes, I think justice would be well served if this couple received a substantial settlement and put the lying charlatan out of business. Sorry yet, LTM?

    Shouldn’t Delgaudio be more focused on the region he represents?  I don’t understand how this guy continues to get elected!!!  Is that district that dense? Regardless of whether you’re right or left of the aisle, this guy is seriously wasting a lot of peoples time.

    Loudoun Times Mirror, this man keeps lying to you and to your readers. He is the head of an acknowledged hate group. He is unfit for the office he holds. Please, please, won’t you retract your endorsement of him now?

    Maybe all the negative press about Eugene in the LTM is because they regret endorsing him.  Sane people can only hope.

    I hope the couple sues Eugene’s direct mail/fundraising scam company and wins a handsome settlement.  It would be nice to know that all that money collected from homophobic Public Advocate donors will go directly to a same-sex couple – thus proving that there is some justice in this world!

    He deserves what ever happens. Stop the hate.

    Go get him——what a jerk!  If you have an opinion, fine…but do be stupid and start manipulating pictures and stuff to make your point.  Aren’t you smart enough to create your own promotional material?  Are you really that stupid to hire people who have no creative bone in their body and instead “steal” from others?  Last time I checked the whole stealing concept was a major no-no in the commandments.  I hope these two take him to court and make him pay.

    Sue the pants off him!  Force him to disclose his shady financial books and go after it all.
