Antique collectors’ old stomping ground re-opens to more than 300 customers

Loudoun antique collectors were able to return to their old stomping ground recently, as the Leesburg Court of Shoppes, located on Route 15, is back open for business.

“We’re very excited to be [back],” Bob Leschorn told the Times-Mirror. “We were here for several years and this wasn’t just a business—it was a destination.”

Leesburg Court of Shoppes opened in April 1996, and then was bought in 2009 by a new owner—who ran it until early summer of 2010 before calling it quits.

Enter the Sullivans—who swooped down and bought the business and started letting people in as early as Nov. 1, 2010.

The Leesburg Court of Shoppes, which is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. every day, employs two or three full time staff, but then also has over a dozen dealers and specialists—many of whom worked there before, Leschorn included.

While many Loudouners have seen businesses going down in the recession, it hass become more unusual for a company to crawl back.

“It’s location, location, location,” Leschorn said. “We were very successful for nine years on Route 15. The traffic has tripled and now it’s an unbelievable traffic flow. People go from Maine to Florida and they don’t take I-95 because of the congestion. We have over 300 dealers who take that route and they buy from us.”

The Leesburg Court of Shoppes celebrated its grand opening on Jan. 1, and saw over 300 visitors over the weekend.

Carrie Sisk, the current manager who also used to work at Leesburg Court of Shoppes even before the Sullivans acquired it, said that turnout was “incredible”.

“There wasn’t even parking available,” Sisk said.

Leschorn attributes the stores success to a quick product turnaround.

“We don’t want to have stuff around for a long time. Our clientele, which goes from middle class to very high class, they want fresh antiques to the market,” Leschorn said. “So we’re constantly buying estates. We buy the entire estate, have our movers bring the estate in and we have [products] that are fresh to the market.”

And when it comes to antiques, variety is important.

“If you can name it, we’ve got it,” Leschorn said.

But the Leesburg Court of Shoppes imagines one of the biggest draws to its location will be summer auctions.

“If everything goes according to plan, then auctions will be held in the back in the barn,” Leschorn said. “We’ll have weekly and monthly auctions, which will be very exciting for the area to have a new, fresh auction house. We’ll be bringing truckloads in for that.”

Leschorn doesn’t see the Leesburg Court of Shoppes going off the map again anytime soon.

“The reason it’s a success is good, good ownership, good management, customer service, quality dealers and a lot of fresh merchandise, antiques that have been in houses and are now up for sale. And being on Route 15, we don’t have to worry, because the customers just keep coming.”

The Leesburg Court of Shoppes is located at 19487 James Monroe Hwy (also known as 15 S), roughly two miles south of downtown Leesburg. For more information, call 703-777-3363.

GOOD POINT!  I would like to add that information for you. 19487 James Monroe Hwy, (15S), about 2 miles south of downtown Leesburg. 703-777-3363

For those of us not familiar with the place it would be nice if the LoudounTimes actually put a location or address in the story.  You know even a N of town or S of town.  You know, that old journalism practice of who, what, WHERE, when, and how.

Otherwise your story is useful only to people who already know about the place.

To- TheLoudestFarterInLoudoun - Classy name! You should visit the store and see what they have & why I sent in my comment & said that.  I DON’T HAVE A TABLE THERE, but wish I did! There are top of the line dealers with great stuff in this store. I will be going back again for sure! Cindy Hansen, Fairfax VA
Great

Thank you Cindy, we will be sure to visit YOUR table at the shop while we are there!

*wink*

WOW! This store is the best antique mall I have seen in this whole area! We attended the fabulous Grand Opening and I saw the most quality merchandise at the most reasonable prices I have seen in the county! This will be the Destination Place for many folks!
Can’t miss with the 16+ dealers in this place!
