Burk to run for open seat on Leesburg Town Council

Kelly Burk, a former Loudoun County Leesburg District Supervisor and member of the Leesburg Town Council, will officially announce her candidacy for a seat on the council on Feb. 3.

The announcement will be made at 6:30 p.m. during the Town of Leesburg’s regular First Friday event.

Burk served as the Leesburg representative on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors before being defeated in her reelection campaign in November.

A special election to fill this seat on the Town Council will be held April 17. Terry Titus was appointed to fill the position until the special election.

Ironically, Burk was defeated by current Loudoun Supervisor Ken Reid (R), whose victory is what left the position open on the Town Council.

Burk is employed as a special education teacher with Loudoun County Public Schools.

Comments

I think she is cute!

Wow - she just can’t understand the word “No”

If one were to look to Kelly Burk’s past four years on the Board of Supervisors, one shudders at what she will do on the Leesburg Town Council.  For those four years we saw:  Votes to increase taxes, votes to increase residential units, votes to increase the size of government.  DO NOT VOTE FOR KELLY BURK!

I support Kelly’s campaign to run for the available seat on the Leesburg Town Council.  She is obviously dedicated to serving the community, and she has the courage to seek public office in order to accomplish something rather than remain complacent about the status quo.  Kelly’s experience and knowledge gained on Town Council and the Board of Supervisors give her an advantage when controversial issues require collaboration to bring about an acceptable resolution.

Not Four Years of Ken Reid—what are you suggesting?  Please expand on your comment.

Go Kelly, gots your back, just please print at least one piece of campaign literature in spanish, they willbe your constituents too.

She was in over her head as a board member and would be again if she were on the town council. While not as controversial as some of the others, she personally added nothing to the office.

She should do a better job handling her school case load.  Anything less than 100% is a great disservice to the kids.  I can’t imagine that she could do both jobs EFFECTIVELY.  No school pension for those that should be fired for cause. Hint hint.

What? We can’t criticize people who run for office?  Gimmeeabreak!  Burk did nothing as a supervior or council person.  it is malignant narcisism as Gosu said—what gall to run for a lower level position after being defeated?

The more public officeholders are criticized with vicious comments, the less likely we will have people willing to step up for these positions. I’m not quite a Kelly Burk fan, but if she wants to run for the office, let’s applaud her willingness to run and let her make her case to the people. She’s certainly not doing it for the money! And she should be thanked for her past service.

There has never been a time in history where voters were dienfranchised as much as in the last board of supervisors elections.  Don’t you find it peculiar that the vote counting went on well past midnight?  Sounds really fishy to me.  And the Board of Elections Secretary is best friends with Dick Blacks daugther and Mick Staton.  Starting to smell as bad as the ocean in New Jersey.  Yes, she should run again.  This will prepare her for when she kicks KEn Rieds traffic ticket getting butt in four years

It’s like trying to flush one of those high efficiency toilets…it just doesn’t understand it stinks and no one wants it around anymore!

Malignant Narcissism.

That’s what you need when the voters just rejected you, and the Town Council just rejected you, but somehow you wake up every morning and bleary-eyed stare into the bathroom mirror saying, ‘I TOTALLY GOT THIS. THE PEOPLE LOVE ME.’

Oh boy.
