Democratic Congressional nominee Jeff Barnett announced Monday that next month he will walk from one end of the 10th Congressional election district to the other.
The six-day walking tour will start Sept. 3 in Gore in Frederick County and head east, reaching McLean on Sept. 8.
The candidate, whose vying for the 10th district seat against incumbent Republican Frank Wolf, will walk 80 miles, visiting 13 towns across the district.
Officials with his campaign said the candidate will talk about his ideas for “revitalizing the local economy and growing the next generation of jobs.”
In Loudoun County, Barnett will make stops in Purcellville and Leesburg.
“As I walk across the district, I’m going to visit the farms, the small businesses, and the communities that make our area such a vibrant and exciting place to live. I’m going to share my vision for Virginia, I’m going to listen to folks’ ideas, and I’m going to try earn their support. After 30 years of Mr. Wolf, it’s time for a new kind of leadership. It’s time for a Congressman who is engaged in our lives and who understands how his votes impact our communities and their economies,” Barnett said in a statement. “This journey is part of my commitment to bringing that kind of transparent and accountable leadership to our District.”
Barnett’s itinerary is as follows:
• Friday, Sept. 3: Gore to Winchester
• Saturday, Sept. 4: Winchester to Berryville
• Sunday, Sept. 5: Berryville to Purcellville
• Monday, Sept. 6: Purcellville to Leesburg
• Tuesday, Sept. 7: Leesburg to Herndon
• Wednesday, Sept. 8: Herndon to McLean
This is what all his efforts and dedication for the country which makes him famous.
KLB, it is wolf that won’t attend a debate, Barnett isn’t afraid to let his policy be seen. Wolf continues to refuse to debate barnett, what is he afraid of? Maybe it’s that it might come up that he was the head of the oversite comittee that was suppose to be watching wall street, or that he voted against the child protection act HR4247, because, in his own words, ” I am concerned with the costs associated with compliance”. Really, what is the cost of a child these days, and why would it cost anything to say that you cannot harmfully restrain or seclude a child? How will you feel when a bus driver hits your kid?
Too funny! Skeptics got it right—total gimmick. Must be pretty desperate for attention, if he’s literally going to walk down Route 7! Guess we’ll see what kind of shape he’s in to get over the Mountain between Berryville and Purcellville. (Does he know the district well enough to know there’s a mountain there?)
How gimmicky.
It might be good showmanship but that’s about it. Instead of wasting time walking why doesn’t the talk about the issues, oh wait, I remember why, because he believes in all of Obama’s socialist visions for America and that just isn’t playing to well these days and is a sure way to NOT get elected.
Maybe there will be an “intimate crowd” to cheer him along. LOL! What does he mean by “growing the next generation of jobs”? There won’t be any as long at BHO and his band of merry men remain in Congress.
Mr. Barnett—If you take those rose-colored glasses off, you’d see that NOBODY represents their Congressional District better than Mr. Wolf.
That’s why your walk is just a waste of your good sweat.
I think his help to his constituents is what makes Frank Wolf such a formidable candidate, not his voting record. In the House of Representatives he has not been an independent voice. For some reason, the Republican Party has achieved great discipline in Congress, with only a few Senators daring on occasion to vote their conscience. The GOP has such strong discipline on their “unified message” that you will always hear Republicans calling to the Democratic Party the “Democrat Party.”
He could walk to the ends of the Earth and still wouldn’t beat Frank Wolf. Anyone who runs against Wolf ( the safest seat in Congress)is wasting their time, money, and effort. Barnett is probably a fine, decent, upstanding person. Not too smart though if he thinks he’s got an ice cube’s chance in hell of winning the seat.
Can we learn where/when the candidate will be in Leesburg on the 6th and 7th?
