In celebration of Virginia Bicyclist and Pedestrian Awareness Week, the Leesburg Police Department is reminding residents to share the road.
The awareness week began Sept. 9 and ends Sept. 15.
“We can do better in Virginia, we can do better in Leesburg,” said Police Chief Joseph R. Price in a prepared statement.
In 2011, 81 bicyclists and pedestrians died on Virginia roadways.
“That means 81 families received word that a loved one was killed in a traffic crash in Virginia. That’s why we’re working with traffic safety advocates, and urging motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to share the road,” Price said.
