CNN features Loudoun’s unique role in presidential race

Loudoun County was featured Wednesday night on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” as one of the “final factors” in determining the outcome of the Nov. 6 presidential election.

Focusing on the looming sequestration cuts and its impact on Virginia’s defense industry, CNN contributor John Avalon interviewed Loudoun residents Katie Hammler and John Dyer, founders of KSH Technology Solutions. The piece didn’t note Hammler’s position as a Leesburg Town Council member.

“Loudoun County is a symbol of the new Northern Virginia – fast-growing and increasingly diverse,” Avalon opens his segment, before commenting Barack Obama was the first Democrat in more than 40 years to carry Virginia.

With Loudoun seen as a vital swing county in the swing state of Virginia, CNN’s piece asked Dyer, an undecided voter, what he was paying most attention to from candidates Obama and Mitt Romney. As one may expect, Dyer said it was any actions or plans on how to avoid the devastating sequestration cuts.

The segment also quoted the oft-mentioned statistic that Loudoun has the highest median annual household income in the nation and the county’s population has grown more than 50 percent in the past decade.

Both the Romney and Obama campaigns have been highly visible in Loudoun and Northern Virginia in recent months. In addition to the first lady’s visit to Leesburg Oct. 9, President Obama visited Fairfax County Oct. 5 and Woodbridge in September. Romney was in Sterling in June, while his wife Ann spoke in Leesburg Sept. 7 and his son Craig stumped in Ashburn Sept. 14. The Republican candidate has visited other regions of Virginia several times in recent weeks.

Electorate.Me (www.electorate.me) was built in Loudoun County to give the electorate a bigger voice.  Bigger than just one vote in one election, we now have a place for substantive discussions of the issues affecting our communities. -Dan

Loudoun will go to Romney and Ryan….the people of Loudoun seem to prefer capitalism over socialism…and with the disastrous Obamacare taxes soon to hit the middle class hard and Obamas poor poor record on everything, Romney is an easy choice this year for Prez…

Loudoun County will lead the rest of the Commonwealth to a victory for the President’s re-election campaign.  This will occur because the Obama campaign has established a well functioning neighborhood volunteer organization, with neighbors talking to neighbors, a highly successful voter registration effort, and a powerful get out the vote effort.

Actually if the Congress would pass a budget we’d all sleep a bit easier, but the Repubs are going to stonewall as long as they can to raise the anxiety level.  Nice.

@skidrow, is that the same all republican board that decided to bring metro to Loudoun?

After Loudoun elected an ALL REPUBLICAN board of supervisors, the handwriting is on the wall for the President.

I don’t support either candidate, both have misleading ads that lie.  The issue with Loudoun is the LCRC has a fantastic GOTV effort, lots of membership.  Conversely the LCDC is, just plain old pathetic, they had a horrible Chair (Mike Turner) who couldn’t manage to get 1 freaking D elected or re-elected and their current Chair is just worthless.

The larger problem with the LCRC & RPVA is they have violently swung to the extreme right. There is a “hostile” take over of Tea Party darlings within the LCRC & RPVA.  Moderates like myself are no longer considered conservative enough.  I’m planning on voting Libertarian, because I can’t stand the GOP or the Dems.

As Loudoun County goes, so goes the commonwealth.  The energy, excitement and enthusiam I’ve seen point to a Romney victory in Loudoun County.  The trajectory President Obama is guiding our country toward is a bus rapidly approaching a cliff.  Do we have the sense to stop the bus, stop the endless deficit spending, stop the assault on businesses.  Governor Romney can lead an American renewal where the economy is growing, people looking for work find the job they need and fiscal discipline is implemented once and for all to the federal budget.  Voting for the status quo this year is voting for trillion dollar deficits, stagnant job growth, declining earnings and a big tax increase come January 1.  Vote Romney-Ryan!!!
