Fair play: Loudoun County Fair has something for everyone
photoTimes-Mirror Staff Photo/Michelle Stevens Tyler Eaton sits in his Nemo car and waits for the Stoney Roberts Demolition Derby to begin at the 2012 Loudoun County Fair. The theme of the Derby was Nemo, and Eaton won the the best decorated Nemo car in his orange and white striped car, complete with fins.

With a corn-on-the-cob eating contest, a Miss Loudoun County pageant, a pig scramble and a demolition derby, this year’s Loudoun County Fair has started off right.

The county fair is the longest-running annual event in Loudoun, starting 77 years ago. Vendors might be raffling iPads and Ferris wheels have more refined safety features than they used to, but the county fair is not too different than it was in 1955, when Purcellville Junior 4-H members took home ribbons for Holstein cattle and Lincoln and Leesburg girls won ribbons for the best-sewn cotton dress.

This year’s county fair has something to offer for the whole family, including a pig-kissing contest, agricultural magic show Agricadabra, a cupcake-baking contest judged by the sisters from TLC’s “DC Cupcakes” show and a professional rodeo at 8 p.m. July 28. There’s also plenty of funnel cake, fried hot dogs and carnival rides to go around.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids, with free admission for kids on July 25. For a full schedule of events, visit http://www.loudouncountyfair.com
