Fire causes $100,000 in damage to Leesburg townhome

A Leesburg townhome sustained $100,000 in damage Aug. 5 after a fire ripped through its basement.

The fire, which was reported about 9:38 p.m., displaced four residents and one out-of-town visitor from the home at 109 Birch St. SE,  according to Loudoun Fire and Rescue. The American Red Cross is assisting the family with housing arrangements.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

According to reports, firefighters from Leesburg, Lansdowne, Hamilton, Ashburn and Loudoun County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Management responded to the scene and brought the fire under control within 14 minutes.

The townhome did sustain significant smoke damage.

Firefighters checked the home for extension, completed searches and ventilated the structure.

The cause of the fire was determined by the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office to be accidental.
