Alicia Klinko, a rising senior at Freedom High School was elected governor of Virginia Girls State June 21. Klinko, of Stone Ridge will attend a week-long citizenship seminar sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
The seminar will be held at Longwood University in Farmville. She will serve as governor for next year’s session. Virginia Girls State will have more than 600 rising high school seniors participate in this year’s session that will be held June 17 through 22.
Participants will conduct the affairs of municipal government after breaking into two parties and forming 14 cities. This event has been held since 1947.
