Greg Motheral, of Sterling, bank vice president, dies at 50

Greg Motheral, of Sterling, senior vice president at John Marshall Bank and son of Times-Mirror columnist Joe Motheral, died Feb. 27 at age 50. He had suffered a heart attack.

Motheral was born in Fort Belvoir to Marjorie and Joe Motheral.

He lived with them overseas in Thailand and Taiwan, graduating from Taipei American School in 1976 and then Hope College in Michigan in 1982. He earned a masters degree in business administration at the University of Arkansas in 1983.

Motheral worked at First American Bank, Signet and the Citizens Bank of Maryland. He was senior vice president with Virginia Commerce Bank from 1996 to 2008. He lived in Cascades for seven years.

Motheral married Joy Schouten in 1991 and they had two children, Kayla and Alyssa. The two eventually divorced but maintained a friendship and parental unity. Motheral later met Cathy Bottrell and her son Sean, with whom he shared six years of happiness.

Survivors also include two sisters, Kathy Motheral and Carrie and her husband Tom Davis and their son Taylor and twins Ben and Natalie.

A memorial service will be Friday, March 12, at 4 p.m. at Leesburg United Methodist Church, 107 W. Market St.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Inova Juniper Program, 8001 Forbes Place, Suite 200, Springfield, VA 22151, c/o Patient Care Funds; or to the American Heart Association, http://www.americanheart.org. Arrangements are by Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon.

To Joe, Marj and members of the breaved family. My family and I would like to exprress our heart felt condolences and wish for God to give you all the strength to get over the pain and sorrow of these difficult times. At the end of the day only time heals and the memories stay on. Death is necessary end for all of us but the sad part is it came a early in life for Greg.
Joe and Marj, my heart reaches out to you both and I wish so much I could be there to share this moment of grief with all of you .God bless.
