Help a local church fight hunger around the world

On Jan. 9 at 1 p.m., St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Leesburg will host an event to package 10,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now, an effort that fights hunger worldwide.

The public is invited to participate in packaging sustainable meals.

“In spite of the outpouring of generosity over the holidays, we still need to address hunger throughout the year,” the Rev. Cecelia Schroeder said in a prepared statement.

Non-perishable, nutritious meals are assembled, ready for distribution in the world’s poorest areas. Two of the main focuses of the program are school feeding programs and emergency relief.

The packaging event will be at Belmont Ridge Middle School at 19045 Upper Belmont Place in Lansdowne.
