USRowing has announced that Lovettsville’s Rob Jones will help represent his country at the 2012 London Paralympic Games from Aug. 29 through Sept. 9.
Jones’ arms and shoulders single sculls rowing crew was selected based on its training camp performance under U.S. adaptive rowing coach Karen Lewis.
Rowing with Jones in the scull will be Oksana Masters of Buffalo, N.Y. and Ron Harvey of Downingtown, Pa.
Jones is a 2003 graduate of Loudoun Valley High School and a 2007 graduate of Virginia Tech. A former U.S. Marine, Jones lost his legs to a roadside bomb in Afghanistan in 2010.
The London 2012 Paralympic Games will be the 14th staging of the summer Paralympic Games.
The event will be the biggest Paralympic Games ever, featuring 4,200 athletes from 160 countries who will compete in 20 sports. The games will showcase paralympians as supremely talented athletes, distinguished by their incredible ability, not disability.
USRowing selects, trains and manages the teams that represent the U.S. in international competitions, including the world championships, Pan American Games, the Olympics and the Paralympics.
