Kevin Wright announces Leesburg Town Council re-election bid
Wright, who will be running for his third term, will mark his candidacy May 29 with a campaign kick-off event at the Fox Ridge Pavilion on Catoctin Circle. Wright hopes constituents will use the opportunity to speak with him about issues and his campaign.
"I look forward to meeting with Leesburg residents about their interests and concerns, both at my kickoff and throughout the campaign," Wright said in a released statement.
In his release, Wright iterated several goals he has for the town, including holding the line on the average residential tax bill, progress on transportation services and establishing a long-term financial plan.
“We have accomplished many things over the past two terms, and there is still work to do,” Wright said.
A 26-year Leesburg resident and manager for Cisco Systems, Wright was first elected in 2006, after having previously served as chairman of the Leesburg Planning Commission. From 2010 to 2012, he served as vice-mayor. Wright's mother, BJ Webb, also served on the town council and as mayor, and Wright's stepfather, Bob Twigg, briefly served as editor of the Times-Mirror before stepping down when Wright ran for office.
Wright is one of three council members whose four-year term expires this year, along with Kelly Burk and Marty Martinez. Mayor Kristen Umstattd's two-year mayoral term also expires; Umstattd announced her re-election bid for her sixth term in January.
