A Leesburg dentist accused of billing insurance providers more than $100,000 in fraudulent claims pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court.
Peter Sae Lee, 41, pleaded guilty to health care fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
He’s scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 7 in U.S. Eastern District of Virginia Court in Alexandria.
Lee practiced dentistry at Leesburg Dental Care from January 2003 to January 2008, where, according to court records, he consistently billed dental insurance providers for x-rays, fillings, crowns and other services for hundreds of patients that were never provided.
In addition to the more than $76,000 insurers lost because of fraudulent claims, authorities said Lee also received $26,000 in reimbursements for services by his wife, also a dentist, that were billed but not actually performed.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Washington Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney James P. Gillis is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
