Leesburg Police records clerk to retire after 35 years of service

The Leesburg Police Department announced today the retirement of records clerk Debra Downs.

Downs’ last day will be Jan. 31.

Downs has worked for the department for 35 years, first starting in 1978. She left the department in 1982, but then returned and continued work until this year.

She began her career with the department as a parking enforcement officer, monitoring the town’s only parking lot where the town’s parking garage and town hall now stand.

The rest of Downs’s career was spent primarily in the police departments’ records section. Her primary role was assisting citizens with requests for reports and data entry.
She also assisted officers with information from the records section.

“...She has been a valuable asset to the police department and she will be missed. The Leesburg Police Department wishes Debbie the very best in all her future endeavors,” said Master Police Officer Christopher Tidmore in a prepared statement.
