Leesburg Police seek help in identifying stolen FBI equipment

Alexander Cowden

Leesburg detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying military equipment recovered during a search of a Plaza Street NE home earlier this month.

The investigation began Nov. 6 after police searched the home of 25-year-old Alexander Cowden, who reportedly fired shots at a tow truck driver earlier that day.

Cowden eventually turned himself in to police on Nov. 7 and is charged with removing a serial number from a firearm, a class I misdemeanor, and possession of a stolen firearm.
No one was injured during the shooting.

Subsequently, detectives searched Cowden’s home and recovered military equipment, including a Helmet 2, body armor and other stolen FBI property.

Detectives are looking for anyone who may be able to identify where the equipment came from.

The interior of Helmet 2 has a piece of green duct tape on the top with “B06271” written on it. Most of the labels on the body armor were removed, but the remaining labels list the following: NSN: 8470-01-497-####, Lot No: 12, Serial No: 724721, Date of MFG: 7-06. The patch on the vest cover was identified as a silencer company symbol.

Anyone with information regarding the origin of these items should contact Detective Thompson at 703-771-4550 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) .Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the Leesburg Police Crime Line at 703-443-TIPS or use TIPSUBMIT. Umm, they may have better luck seeking help from military.
I’m no detective though.
