While the full presidential campaign may not yet have caught fire with the general public, the Virginia GOP 10th District Victory office is up and operational on Royal Street in Leesburg. And today they had a protester.
Matthew Gallelli of Middleburg took to the streets today outside the GOP headquarters with a sign urging presumptive presidential candidate Mitt Romney to release his tax returns.
According to Gallelli, MoveOn.org is coordinating this type of protest nationwide today in an effort to bring attention to the race and the candidate’s lack of disclosure thus far. In most locations, leaflets with petitions were also being distributed.
The leaflets make note that Romney did release his tax returns when he sought the vice-presidential selection in the John McCain for president campaign.
“I’m worried about what Romney has done with his money. I’m worried that he may be hiding most of it in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes on it.”
I’m laughing so hard at the hypocrisy…I have to step back before I type that Obama has 5 folks in his top circle with the same problem. Jordan…amongst others..in his own house.
And all the talking points worry about Romney? Secretive?
How about a birth certificate that took 2 years, transcripts that have yet to be released and the completely opague curtain about anything else personally involving the President. How anyone can say that Romney’s “secretive” with a straight face is just a loud, in-your-face cry of mental instability(or I’d even accept a full-blown case of ignorance of the facts)
Mccain said the tax returns were not the reason behind his coice of Palin. Is there 1 person out there that can read Romneys return and understand it, I thought not. It is just a media ploy and ain’t nobodies business. Big secret he has more money than you do!
@Bluedog
It bothers this guy the same way it bothered the bat$*!^ Birthers. The difference is that no one has seen Romney’s returns outside of the McCain campaign and it does have a serious effect on how he would govern fiscal policy, taxation, and the deficit. Obama’s birth certificate wasn’t ever an issue and all the conspiracy theories had been debunked long before it ever should have become an issue.
And there’s your problem. Every time someone wants to do something, there’s someone else that wants to protest. You can see this occupies this poor soul’s life to see Romney’s tax returns.
Do you suppose that Mitt Romney asks his potential VP candidates for only their most recent tax return? I’m guessing he thinks he needs to see all of them.
It’s not crazy to want to see more than a year or two of returns. We want to make sure that a person who might lead our country hasn’t been taking advantage of every loop hole under the sun to avoid pitching in.
“Don’t let your ignorance stand in the way of blaming the media.”
So is everybody who disagrees with you, “ignorant”? I wasn’t blaming anybody for anything, but rather pointing out that it seemed an inordinate amount of space to devote to one man with one sign.
BTW, I didn’t see the prominent article you mentioned from two weeks ago in the LTM when the GOP district first opened and don’t see it in the online archives. Am I missing it, or are you thinking of another publication? Please link it, as I’d be interesting in reading it. Cheers.
The LTM reported weeks ago of this campaign office opening. Don’t let your ignorance stand in the way of blaming the media so you can justify your opinion though… you fit right in with the GOP.
A local district campaign office opens up, full of eager staff and volunteers, and who gets the photo and column inches? The lone opponent standing outside with a sign. Go figure.
That guy is just saying what the Republican governors are saying! It’s been standard procedure for presidential candidates to share their tax records. Maybe Bob McDonnell sent him to Leesburg!
@redcow - The all Republican BoS rocks! They are the ones who are bringing rail to Loudoun ;)
@redcow:
You are a bit misinformed. The electorate for a Presidential election is different than mid-term Congressional elections, and even more different from off-year local elections. Mid-term and off year elections have an older and more conservative leaning electorate. Even more, the turnout from those local elections was only 16%... expect at least double that this cycle.
Also, please show empirical proof that Obama voters have moved from Loudoun… don’t just state anecdotal evidence because its based on nothing but biased observations.
Obama may or may not carry Loudoun County, but regardless both sides expect a very close election.
If you bank offshore with secretive funds stashed away, you are well within your legal rights to do so.
As a voter, I’m well within my rights to judge you as someone with something to hide. I also think that anyone who wants to rule our great nation should want to keep jobs and money onshore in our great nation.
Obama won’t win Loudoun County. Did you miss the fact that Loudoun recently elected an all Republican Board of Supervisors? Plus, the recession has forced many more of Obama’s supporters out of Loudoun.
“this guy shouldn’t worry about what Romney does with his own money”
I’m worried about what Romney has done with his money. I’m worried that he may be hiding most of it in offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes on it. I’m worried about the 11 hard drives that he bought (and took with him) when he left the Mass. Gov’s office. And the fact that he had all the email purged. I’m worried about the blind trust that he moved assets into the day before he was sworn in as Gov. I’m worried that he may have made a lot of his money by taking American jobs and moving them overseas. I’m worried that the 22 years of tax returns that Romney released to the McCain campaign as part of the vetting process had a lot to do with why he wasn’t good enough to be McCain’s VP. And I’m worried that he’s refusing the release them publicly.
You should be worried too.
@ workinghard:
You should also worry about what Romney will do with your money. He would commit more money to unnecessary defense programs, provide even more tax cuts to Wall Street, and use all of that as justification to reduce spending on education and public programs which benefit middle and working class Americans. Given his support for the Ryan budget, he will also increase the deficit in doing so.
Obama may be far from being an ideal candidate, but I’ll take him over Romney any election cycle.
Romney gave his tax returns to McCain (who then turned him down as VP material, in favor of kook Palin) but he won’t make them public. Off shore accounts and all that baloney. Smells bad to me too!
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
And all this committed fellow is doing is changing Loudoun! We are the 99%!!
this guy shouldn’t worry about what Romney does with his own money and maybe he should worry about what Obama does with our money
This is a prelude to the support Obama will receive in Virginia.
