Loudoun residents inject cash into presidential race

Loudoun County is home to some high-end presidential donors, with 30 households giving $5,000 or more to the Republican or Democrat campaigns, according to the Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP), a nonpartisan money-tracker in the state’s politics.

Altogether, Loudouners have donated approximately $650,000 to the campaigns of President Barack Obama and his challenger, Republican Mitt Romney, with Romney taking a large chunk of the change. These totals do not include donations less than $200, which VPAP does not track. The Republican candidate, by the end of August, had secured more than $350,000 in contributions of $200 or more, while Obama has taken just less than $300,000.

The contribution limit for individuals to presidential campaigns is $5,000. Sixteen households in Loudoun that have given $5,000 or more to Romney and 14 have given $5,000 or more to Obama.

Obama has received 100 more donations of $200 or greater than his challenger; the Democrat’s taken 538 separate contributions to Romney’s 438. However, the GOP candidate’s average donation greatly exceeds the president’s, $801 to $556.

Donations from Loudoun residents account for 4.5 percent of the $14.2 million Virgnians have given to the two candidates since January 2011.

Those households that have given $5,000 or more to the Romney campaign are: Brock and Lisa Bierman of Round Hill; Philip and Carol Friedman of Leesburg; Mark E. and Wendy M. Stavish of Leesburg; Sue and Patrick J. Bourke of Leesburg; George C. and Ursula E. Andreas of Middleburg; Megan S. and John Medica of Middleburg; Craig Coy of Leesburg; Waler G. and Cynthia Davis of Waterford; William H. Dean of Sterling; Peter and Linda Hoyt of Leesburg; Curtis Kolcun of Leesburg; Trowbridge and Margaret Littleton of Middleburg; Thomas J. Medaglia III of Leesburg; Thomas R. and Gayle J. Runquist of Leesburg; Lawrence Simon of Middleburg; and Patrick Sweeney of Philomont.

Loudoun residents that donated $5,000 or more to President Obama are: Janet M. Taliaferro of Leesburg; Louis B. Susman of Dulles; James R. Ramzy of Leesburg; Rania Nazhat of Sterling; Jon Love of Ashburn; Eleni Kounalakis of Dulles; William Hasselberger of Bluemont; Norman Eisen of Dulles; Ross Biro of Ashburn; Elizabeth M. Berry of Dulles; Wanda A. Alexander of Ashburn; Eric Adolphe of Leesburg; Ava J. Abramowitz of Leesburg; and Betty L. and Fred L. Morefield of Purcellville.
