Republican Gov. Robert McDonnell is supporting GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, the Romney campaign announced Friday morning.
Widely considered a front-runner candidate for the number two spot on his party’s ticket, McDonnell currently serves as the chairman of the Republican Governors Association.
The endorsement comes the day before the South Carolina Republican primary. Since 1980, every GOP candidate to win the Palmetto State primary has gone on to secure the party’s presidential nomination.
Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina has also endorsed Romney.
“As I have said throughout this primary process, we need a governor to serve as our next president,” said McDonnell in a prepared statement. “America needs leadership and that’s what governors do: they lead. Governors actually have to find solutions and bring all parties together in order to get results for their citizens – they can’t just sit back and cast votes.”
Romney, who lost the 2008 Republican nod to Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), said McDonnell’s leadership in Virginia can be viewed as an example of what needs to happen in the rest of the county.
“Governor McDonnell has used the conservative principles of keeping taxes and spending low and creating a fair regulatory climate to make Virginia a top destination for job creators,” Romney said.
Open marriage for everyone! (except gays of course, don’t want to be out of line with good Christian values right GOP voters?)
Newt might make Bill Clinton look like a prude if he gets in the WH. Look out interns and female staff.
Just read how Newt Lobbied for Fanny or was it Freddie to the tune of $25K/month. Only the far right is keeping Newt in the race. We already have enough old white haired farts in politics…..
The only way the republicans have a chance of beating Obama is with Mitt R. Newt is a loser and will not get any votes from the 30% Independents.
All the candidates are losers, including the incumbent President. Either way we’ll get four more years of harm to America, just like the last 32. The Baby Boomer’s should be very proud of their contribution to this country’s prosperity, it is lower than ever.
Your right John my mistake, using John Podesta and Al Hunt numbers from Bloomberg it only 4 positives to 1 negative. i think 374k is not a whole lot of money in Mitts world. As for being a dill weed and releaseing his taxes what gives you the right to see anyone elses taxes. If the IRS does not find anything wrong are you the one to correct them. Since you are so wrong here maybe you should show us your taxes and we could offer you a few ways to save on your taxes coutersey the dill weeds for fewer/less taxes. Don’t rub another mans ruhbarb as the saying goes
Let’s see, BREAKING NEWS Newt wins, big, and I have to wonder what Gov McDonnell now thinks about his “bold” move to back the distance loser, in a race that Gov McDonnell should never have tried to influence. I guess this, one, tell us all we need to know about how politically inept the Gov is, and second, that he won’t be looking at VP any time soon.
Joe and Jon you sound like the Obama fans not me. I bet you two voted for the guy…suckers. And no Jon, I have the competency to complete my own taxes, but seeing as my net worth is no where near Romneys’ or probably even yours for that matter. I don’t have to deal with the same tax implications. I can’t quite confirm what the guy has in his offshore accounts because he’s too much of a dill weed to release that information. And corporate positive’s….hah obviously you need to do some research buddy. Joe I was simply referring to the fact that this is a presidential candidate with the highest net worth the country has ever seen, how can you say this guy can relate to hard working middle class families. His little comment about $374,000 not being much money and how he tried to say that he knows what it is like to worry about job loss. What a guy. See you at the primaries guys. Go Paul!
How was it fixed? If they could read Newt and Perry could have spent enough time in Virginia to get on the ballot. Instead they preferred to campaign in Iowa. Their mistake not Romney, McDonnell or anyone but themselves. How do you know what he has in offshore accounts? Do you have H and R do your taxes that I am sure qualifies you to interpert Romneys tax return. He gets taxed on the money if it comes into the USA. What numbers for jobs are you using the holiday creations or the census jobs Obama created? Also he pays less taxes then the others because he is just plain smarter about money matters and that goes a long way with me when it comes to presidential choices. I am sure he gets looked at very closely by the IRS so if there was something against the tax laws he would have beeen busted!!! His corporate postives outweigh his negatives 5 to 1, not bad Mr. fixed, thank god
John….
Like Obummer’s not the 1 percent?
Have to agree with Loudoun Native. Dr. Ron Paul is the only one in the pool of candidates that is highly intelligent, offers a sound financial reform platform, and is a scholar and gentleman. It’s harder and harder to find a man of his caliber these days. I would be honored to call him my president. Restore America to greatness! Vote Paul!
I agree. $374k isn’t very much money. Romney really connects with me.
This Rep. won’t support Romney or McDonnell. Got to go with Paul. He offers the most liberty and will hopefully slash spending.
Romney is the 1 percent and is part of what’s wrong with America. He is majorly out of touch with the American people and lacks class, and not to mention is a tax dodger. Loudoun is a huge district for Virginia when it comes to voting so come on Loudoun, let’s do our part and not let this scumbag get the call.
Great timing, GOV, just as the Newt man is about to win in S.C. If your timing is an indication of your worth, I don’t think any presidential nominee should pick Gov McDonnell.
Net job creation under Obummer: NEGATIVE 1.7 million
“Obummer created more jobs”? LOL
Too bad Romney isn’t a Republican! Go Newt!!!
Vote for Liberty. Vote for Ron Paul in the primary.
It’s good to know that the Republican Party Plan has already locked this primary up for Mitt Romney well in advance of many of the Primaries. Why bother even hold these primaries if it is already decided? Well, it’s a marketing ploy for the Republicans to get media attention and recognition. Even Bob McDonnell knows that the rules they set up in Virginia would restrict who could run so that Virginia was fixed for Romney…just like it was fixed for Bob McDonnell to run and will be fixed for Bill Bolling to run. If I were Ken Cuccinelli, I’d be pissed that his own party officials have set up the system for him to fail. Bobby McDonnell has already been selected as the VP candidate for the fixed Romney campaign. It’s no wonder Republicans in Virginia came out so strongly in favor of Corporate Raider Romney. Obama created more jobs in the last year then all of the jobs Romney’s corporate raiding netted or that which Romney claims to have created over 25 years as a corporate raider. It’s great that he circumvents the US tax code by maintaining a large portion of his wealth offshore. He pays more then the average american and way more then the average loudoun county resident who get unfairly taxed on their income when they have two incomes in their household. There is no way that the destructive policies of Mitt Romney will win in Virginia.
