In anticipation of another application being submitted for the Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highline, a meeting has been set for July 20 to discuss the environmental impacts of the project.
The National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service and the Corps of Engineers are preparing an environmental impact statement and have scheduled the July 20 public scoping session for 4 p.m. at Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville.
Allegheny Power and American Electric Power are expected to refile an application for PATH later this summer.
The previous application showed PATH as a 275-mile, 765,000-volt power line that would stretch from West Virginia to Maryland, crossing Loudoun north of Lovettsville for about 10 miles along its way.
In January, the Virginia State Corporation Commission accepted the power companies’ request to withdraw the application.
The companies reasoning for withdrawal was because statistics had changed, and the line was not going to be needed as early as expected to prevent rolling blackouts.
In addition to the meeting at Loudoun Valley, there are meetings scheduled for 4 p.m. July 19 at the Quality Inn Conference Center in Harper’s Ferry, W.Va., and for 4 p.m. July 22 at Tuscarora High School in Frederick, Md.
