Middleburg man sentenced to 10 years for selling prescription drugs

A 53-year-old Middleburg man will spend 10 years in federal prison for illegally distributing prescription drugs he obtained while on Medicare.

Joseph George Ecker was sentenced Aug. 27 for conspiracy to distribute Schedule II prescription narcotic drugs and health care fraud, charges he plead guilty to June 1, said Peter Carr, U.S. Department of Justice spokesman.

In addition to his prison time, Ecker was ordered to repay Medicare $201,465, the amount he defrauded from it. Ecker will also be required to repay $200,000 in profits from his illegal prescription drug sales. Ecker also consented to the forfeiture of his house as property used to facilitate his drug trafficking activities, Carr said.

According to court documents, from 2007 to 2010, Ecker engaged in a conspiracy to distribute massive amounts of prescription narcotics that he obtained at little or no cost as a Medicare beneficiary. Ecker sold narcotics out of his residence in Middleburg and adjusted the prescriptions he received based in part on what he could resell to other co-conspirators for profit, Carr said.

When he is released from prison, Ecker will serve three years of supervised probation, Carr said.

I know the guy, well deserved punishment. More to the story than reported.

Take his house or send him to jail, not both. He’ll pay just by being homeless and addicted to heavy duty drugs. 10 years in the slammer is a bit steep for just selling part of your medication on the side don’t you think??? addiction is a disease - such heavy hand with addicts…it seems…

I suppose if you are going to turn to a life of crime, it pays to go big. I wonder if El Atari stashed his money in a Swiss bank account or safe deposit box and when he gets out in 2022, he’ll be living the good life.

El_Atari steals 50 million dollars from banks all over the country and gets 12 years.

Ecker sells (albeit “stolen”) pills to consenting adults so they can get high. He loses his house, is fined almost half a million and gets 10 years.

I’m glad we have our priorities straight

So now we have to spend the taxpayer’s money to put this guy up for 10 years because he sold some pills…I guess we will have to pay for his heart operation in the joint too!
