Miller blasts Delgaudio

Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles) in an April 20 board meeting lambasted Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio after the Sterling board member accused Miller’s family of helping to lead an attack against him.

Miller, in a heated exchange of words, warned Delgaudio that if he continued to talk about his family, he would do so at his own peril.

“Point of personal privilege. I will not listen to you implicate my family, you … You will not implicate my family. Mr. Delgaudio, you leave them out of it,”  Miller screamed at Delgaudio. “I have never spoken one word about your family or any of the other things that might migrate up about your personal life. You implicate them now you do so at your own peril, sir.”

“I take that as a denial …” Delgaudio quipped back.

Following the meeting, Delgaudio said he was referring to news reports that Miller’s wife, Elizabeth, in her blog had tipped off a writer for Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” about comments Delgaudio had made concerning gay rights.

In the “The Daily Show” segment, which aired in March, host Jon Stewart poked fun at Delgaudio for an e-mail he sent to constituents where he referred to transgendered individuals as “it.” Delgaudio’s e-mail followed a January decision by Loudoun supervisors to update their equal opportunity employment policy.

Miller’s verbal assault against Delgaudio continued for almost two uncomfortable minutes.

“I speak for myself, Mr. Delgaudio,” Miller said. “As the Sterling supervisor, you are done speaking for me. You can speak for yourself for as long as you continue to hold elected office, but do not speak for me. Do not tell me what my words are. I will speak for myself, sir.”

“Yeah, go ahead and grin. Are you enjoying it?” Miller asked Delgaudio during the exchange. “You made me mad. It only took you two and a half years. You’ve made me mad before, but this is the first time I’ve done it on public record. Keep it up! Keep it up! You’ll regret it!”

“Well thank you for that. I appreciate it,” Delgaudio responded before Chairman Scott York intervened.

The fight started as the board was discussing whether members of civic organizations should be obligated to follow Freedom of Information Act laws.

Delgaudio used the discussion to delve into other issues, such as the role of the county’s Courthouse Grounds and Facilities Use Committee, which was also on the April 20 agenda, and Miller’s move to have gay and lesbian individuals included in the county’s equal opportunity employment policy.

Comments

The only people who think about gay sex as much as Eugene Delguadio are either gay or in the closet. Trust me, it takes one to know one!

Yeah.  Regarding Sarah Palin and her infant son!  A politician who advocates abstinence-only and then produces a teenage daughter who is pregnant, and her teenage boyfriend, WHO LIVED WITH THEM, and an infant son born the same year with Down’s Syndrome is begging to be made fun of.  WHY CAN’T YOU FIGURE THAT PART OUT?

Whoever is posting as “Sally” here, hello.  You are late to the game to use that name as your handle, though—it’s mine!  Please pick another name!

I do not agree that Miller is participating in making a mockery of his position.  There is no place on the BOS for attacking another Board member’s family.  Most people would react the same way, which is to defend their family and pronounce it off-limits.  But, Delgaudio has no limits, apparently.

Both are elected officials and making a mockery of their positions.  Stop defending one or the other, they are both wasting tax payer time and money with their antics.

Delgaudio has my full support!  He speaks up and takes a stand even when subjects are “touchy!”  He is definitely saving Sterling Park.  Interesting that Delgaudio speaks his mind and it is “embarrassing,” “he’s a homophobe,” “a whacko,” .... on and on.  So you that have openly labeled him, ... what are you??  Haters!!!  I guess it’s ok to speak your mind if everyone agrees with you, huh?!

I say keep it up, Delgaudio!

growupnshutup—interesting name, but to what (or whom) does it refer?—funny that you should raise the old chestnut that Delgaudio doesn’t live here, when one year into Miller’s term he moved to rent in the only precinct in his new district that would allow him to try for a state office, which he lost.

This really isn’t about Eugene, and he was not the only member of the BoS that had trouble with Miller’s exclusionary and foolish resolution.

A majority seemed to prefer Buckley’s substitute motion, to educate appointees in compliance with the law.

A much better solution, and in keeping with state policy on FOIA.

Delguido- homophobe.

I wholeheartedly support Sterling Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio. He’s the only one who that stands up for the families of Sterling during these tough economic times. Meanwhile, Miller thumbs his nose at us. Delgaudio has my support for re-election!

Mr. Delgaudio is one of the major reasons we moved out of the Sterling area a dozen years ago. I can’t believe Loudoun County still puts up with his antics. A total embarrassment. Is he living in the county full time yet?

TO: Loundonmoderate

Your comment is rational but a quote that has helped me recently is “Life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.”

Wow, Sally, way to score points.  Might I also point out that Delgaudio is a member of the same party as Rush Limbaugh who stated, “Our political correct society is acting like some giant insult’s taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards.”
So, take that.  Sheesh.

How dare Miller suggest that only economic development appointees refrain from civic association, and not environmental or rural economy appointees?

How dare he suggest that ANYONE refrain from civic association, when we are all guaranteed free association?

How dare he vote to appoint his wife to a county advisory body?

How dare he continue to use his paid elected position in this county to continue to grandstand for other office?

Watch the webcast.

Delgaudio had a legitimate point about Miller’s (quite frankly stupid as suggested) initiative, and made scant mention of Mrs. Miller’s blog in which she bragged about getting him on the Daily Show through a “friend in high places”, upon which Miller completely lost it.

This is barely about Delgaudio, and you’d know that if you watched the webcast.

It may have much more to do with the fact that he gave interviews to all the papers crying about Loudoun being ridiculed on the Daily Show, which looks pretty stupid when the other half of the pair is simultaneously squealing with joy in the sterile privacy of THE INTERNET at getting it on the show in the first place.

(But I think we weren’t supposed to know that part.)

Delgaudio is a whacko.  Does anyone know if he has Tourette’s Syndrome or something?  This outrageous behavior on his part should not be going on continuously at public meetings.  How dare he attack Miller’s family.  That’s so inappropriate considering what their mission is supposed to be.  As I said before, Delgaudio has not signed the Code of Ethics for the BOS for Loudoun County.  WHY?

No one likes quarrels at board meetings. Delgaudio has extreme views combined with purposely confrontational methods for delivering those views, so people either think him wacko, get mad at him, or wholeheartedly embrace those views. Supervisor Miller is normally a fairly thoughtful person, so Delgaudio must be smirking that he finally succeeded in getting under Steven’s skin.

These two guys represent two points of view of some emotional issues. This is the way a democracy is supposed to work.

Miller asked to speak for himself?  Well, I say let DelGaudio speak for himself:
“You’ll see men hand-in-hand skipping down to adoption centers to ‘pick out’ a little boy for themselves,” read a 1998 letter from Delgaudio seeking money to fight gay adoptions.
“As homosexuals die off due to AIDS, the remaining AIDS carriers prey on children to replenish the ‘Homosexual Community,’ ” a 1991 Delgaudio letter reads. “I absolutely must find $73,575 before the end of next month to pay for printing, telephones, research, and postage.”
A 1995 letter reads: “Just imagine a world where the police allow homosexual adults to rape young boys in the streets.”
During a 2008 interview about illegal immigration on public radio, he referred to Sterling Park as a “cesspool.”
During discussions this January over the ban on employment discrimination in Loudoun, he called the plan “freaky, bizarre and fruity,” and said “Cross-dressing rights: that’s what we’re talking about at this meeting. This would put men who wear dresses in county bathrooms without public notice!” He then wrote that because of the ban “a man wearing a dress wanting a job, you have to treat it as a normal person.”

I don’t care what Miller or his wife did or said. DelGaudio is a bigot who has no place in public office. Everything he says is presumptively false in my book. Anyone who votes for him knowing who he really is should be ashamed.

Geeze, there goes another fool who throws the word racist around for every situation, whether it fits or not, that word is becoming meaningless due to fools like you, “Sam”.  Please tell me how the word “racist” plays into this situation.  I am not ashamed of Delgaudio, he stands up for what he believes and I wish I could vote for him.  He has stood up for the legal residents of Sterling, he has stood against the out of control spending and has the character, no matter how bad he is slammed, to stand his ground on his views of gay rights.  He is a strong willed, straight talking representative of the people of Sterling and considering the majority of representatives, from BOS on up, who talk out of both sides of their mouths, promising us the moon & stars during elections then forgetting about us once they are in, I’d say Delgaudio is just what we need.  Although I live in Sterling Park, the line cuts off at my street and I unfortunately get McGimsey, she has proven to be useless when I have a problem, she doesn’t give a damn about her Sterling Park voters-yet Delgaudio, even though not my supervisor has helped me more than once.

Delguadio is a professional hate merchant (http://www.publicadvocateusa.org/) who is an embarrassment to the Loudoun County government,  the State of Virginia and his mother.

Mr. Miller is obviously to immature to represent adult constituents in any public forum.  Mr. Delgaudio has been the buffoon of Loudoun for far to long.  Just like the rest of the country’s politicians, let’s vote ‘em all out.

Delgaudio is simply a wack. Plain and simple.
Have any of you supporters ever spent any time at
a BOS meeting and watched this guy?
It’s like watching a comedy show. We do truly
need to have a “best of Delgaudio” I can promise
you one thing, this is his last term.

Delgaudio does not deserve to hold elected office. Alas he does. Let’s hope someone runs against him in the next election and wins.

Miller needs to take is arrogant ass somewhere else.. we don’t want him. Also.. how can SCHOOL TEACHED Kelly Burke VOTE on School issues and SCHOOL BUDGET while she is a teacher for the same County she is approving budget for?

No wonder the LCPS system is having trouble with getting money and the budget is a mess for one of the wealtiest….BOS is too busy playing fiddle faddle..na na na na na….boo boo.  I very much think Delgadio and many of the BOS do racial profiling in the Sterling Park area….don’t get me started about that!  We need some color mix up on that BOS, let’s color it up the way our County really is! Let’s vote in a couple poor folks, black, white, Indian, Hispanic, Vietnamese, Irish, Muslim, etc…..just sayin

Mr. Delgaudio is an absolute credit to our community. He speaks the truth and many people here in Loudoun County cannot deal with the truth. I’m very proud that he stands up to those other members of the Board of Supervisors who insist on bankrupting this county. Mr. Miller should be ashamed of himself and many of us look forward to his defeat next year and Mr. Delgaudio’s re-election. Thank God for men of integrity like him who will stand up against all odds for what is right, not just when its personally or politically advantageous to do so. Mr. Delgaudio should run for Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, but we want to keep him as our representative right here in Sterling.

No matter what the disagreement, screaming is not a professional means of communication. But especially in this case, there is no justification for it. Delgaudio stated a fact about Mrs. Miller’s actions that was true and Miller acted out with the immaturity he displays on a regular basis. Miller is a sorry excuse for a representative of the people.

David, the point at hand is Miller’s attempt to make only business/economic appointees accountable to FOIA while in “civic groups”, and his total loss of control when Delgaudio mentions what Mrs. Miller bragged about on the Internet.

If we really want to implement Miller’s loony suggestion, then we need to cross reference Sustainable Loudoun, the membership at the UUs, the PEC, and all other civic groups that Miller himself supports (and belongs to?) with various county appointment and groups receiving county support, like REDC etc.  Not to mention Mrs. Miller’s county appointment—there IS that too—lol!

He really CAN’T have it both ways, and if he’s determined to be a “professional” (cough) politician, the last thing he should be doing is screaming so loud into a mike he causes feedback, while on camera.

Good for Mr. Miller. Delgaudio is a foul-mouthed bully, and it’s about time that his colleagues start standing up to him. He’s been engaging in disgusting attacks on other human beings from that dais and in his emails and fundraising letters for years, but a sense of collegiate respect has led to, in my view, toleration of unacceptable behavior.
.
That needs to change. Delgaudio’s outright statement that some human beings are “it” - in other words, not really human - crossed a line. Such behavior has no place in public office, and someone who would make that statement is not entitled to respect; to the contrary, it is Delgaudio who disrespects his office. He should consider himself fortunate that he’s been so tolerated for so long.

Delgaudio in no way attacked Miller’s family. He merely restated a fact that Miller’s wife had proudly announced.

Miller can dish it out, but can’t take it.

Also, I’d just like to note the irony here. Miller is a member of the same party that treated every single member of Sarah Palin’s family as FAIR GAME, even down to her INFANT, Down’s syndrome son.

For ten years I have thanked God that Mr. Delgaudio has chosen to live in Sterling and serve us on the Board of Supervisors.  I really don’t know how bad things could have gotten without him to balance the the usual majority of Board Members who find other people’s hard earned dollars easy and cheap to spend on “whatever” and leave the school board unaccountable for the money they steal from the public in the name of education, something that rarely happens. Thank you for taking the abuse, for taking the stand to serve us, despite the cost to you personally from ignorant people who do not like you stopping them from having their way with us. I am so very grateful for you, Mr. Delgaudio.

This is really about Miller being mad at business people helping Loudon and Mr. Delgaudio pointing out the hypocricy of Stevens Miller.

Miller may try to violate freedom of information laws with his wife, and he is just mad that Delgaudio is on the watch.

Miller can dish it out but can’t take it.  Typical Miller, bad for Loudoun.

Loudoun could use more straight shooters like Delgaudio.

Helloooo it is the kettle calling itself whatever.

watch the whole thing Miller, basically Miller calls his mother a thief for stealing a library book’ later in this BOS meeting.  WE have crazy people running this county. ;-)

If you have sat thru a BOS meeting and observed Mr. Delgadio, you could understand Mr. Miller’s anger.  Mr. Delgadio’s attack of Mr. Miller’s wife is uncalled for.  So, it made it to The Daily Show.  For pete’s sake, it had already been in the papers!  If Mr. Delgadio didn’t regularly make foolish, embarassing remarks, then he wouldn’t be fodder for the papers or TV, and The Daily Show thing wouldn’t have happened.  But he had no right to verbally attack Mr. Miller’s wife IN PUBLIC.  Therefore, I applaud Mr. Miller for responding IN PUBLIC.  Someone has got to stop Delgadio, or should we call him Eugene DelGOTTAGO!

Sterling residents should be ashamed of Delgaudio and his racist / homophobic rantings.  Vote in ANYONE else and end this embarrassment!

These Bozo’s are the best we can get for a supervisory board of the “wealthiest per capita” county in the entire United States?  Wow!

Dumb and dumber…a county that is allegedly “affluent” and “well educated” has the worst excuses for public servants…between the School Board and BOS we easily have the best “reality” television shows locally…maybe we could syndicate these silly board meetings and sell them to major networks for a profit and make up for all of the budget issues!

Delgaudio does not deserve to hold elected office. Alas he does. Let’s hope someone runs against him in the next election and wins.
