William C. Mims, a former attorney general and Republican legislator from Loudoun County, was selected March 10 by the General Assembly to fill a vacancy in the state Supreme Court.
Mims, 52, will replace Barbara Keenan, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
He spent 11 months as state attorney general after Gov. Bob McDonnell resigned from the office to run for governor. Mims served as chief deputy attorney general under McDonnell.
Since January, he’s been a partner at the law and lobbying firm Hunton & Williams.
He will start his 12-year term on the state Supreme Court on April 1.
