An El Salvadorian man and member of the MS-13 gang was sentenced today to a year in federal prison for illegally reentering the U.S. after having been previously deported.
Salvador Portillo, 30, was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a child in Fairfax County.
According to court documents, Portillo illegally entered the U.S. and was deported by immigration authorities Oct. 8, 2003.
Portillo reentered the country again was found in Loudoun County Nov. 21, 2010.
After illegally entering the country Dec. 26, 2010, Portillo, sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl in Fairfax County.
He was subsequently convicted of rape and sodomy in the Fairfax County Circuit Court and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Portillo was transferred from state to federal custody July 12 and he pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry on July 23.
This case was investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. Virginia Assistant Attorney General and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Birnbaum is prosecuting the case on behalf of the U.S.
