    Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

    During the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, 815 teams from 40 states and 15 foreign countries competed at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa May 23 through 26. Seven teams form Virginia regions representing Loudoun County schools earned their way to the final round.

    Odyssey of the Mind involves more than 1,600 students in the county each year. Each team selects a problem in the vehicle, structure, technical, classics or theatrical performance category and throughout the year each team works on their designated problem.

    Below are the winners from Loudoun County.

    Problem 1 Ooh-Motional Vehicle:

    Div I: 9th place - Seldens Landing Elementary School Team A, Region 14

    Team members: Ben Svoboda, Cole Trautman, Tycho Svoboda, Alexa Dressel, Ethan Dillon, Justin Hampton, Kayla Passino; Coach: Sarah Ali Svoboda.

    Div III: 24th place - Heritage High School, Region 14

    Team members: Aditi Narvekar, Teresa Nowalk, Rebecca D’Alessandro, Alyssa Davis, Harshitha Narayanan; Coach: Suparn Narvekar.

    Problem 2 Weird Science:

    Div III: 19th place - Dominion High School, Region 16

    Team members: Emily Saldanha, Conor Crotty, Katherine Armstrong, Sarah Joyner, Audrey Newman, Daniel Sheaffer, Sarah Yang; Coach: Grace Saldanha.

    Problem 3 To Be or Not To Be:

    Div II: 11th place - J. Michael Lunsford Middle School Team B, Region 14

    Team members: Marie Morales, Mehr Kumar, Mallika Dammalapati, Megan Balog, Jason Thomas, Jessica Carter, Vikram Sharma; Coach: Ashit Kumar.

    Problem 4 You Make the Call:

    Div I: 21st place - Horizon Elementary School Team A, Region 16

    Team members: Vikram Arunachalam, Rhea Agarwal, Ayush Desai, Max Desousa, Allie Feinberg, Eveline Mitchell, Andrew Zhang; Coach: Geetha Arunachalam.

    Div II: 16th place - Seneca Ridge Middle School, Region 16

    Team members: Matthew Traenkle, Jason Kelly, Prathik Anand, Dale Wilson, Jordan Davis, Sneha Sudhakar, Justin Tandon; Coach: Sheila Traenkle.

    Problem 5 Odyssey Angels:

    Div II: 31st place - J. Michael Lunsford Middle School Team B, Region 14

    Team members: Lydia Vlasto, Emiliana Rose Wood, Priya Batheja, Josie Kupsky, Isaani Patnaik, Jacob Graves, Siddhant Nalawade; Coach: Puneet Batheja.
