Public information sessions finalized for Metro tax districts

Loudoun County staff and supervisors have announced the dates for two public information sessions regarding the proposed eastern Loudoun Metrorail service tax districts being considered by the Board of Supervisors.

The first assembly comes next week on Oct. 4 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administration Building,  at 21000 Education Court in Ashburn. The second session will be held Oct. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Sterling Middle School, at 201 W. Holly Ave.

According to the county’s public information office, the information periods will be open-house, walk-through style, with representatives on hand from the county’s Department of Management and Financial Services, the Office of transportation Services and the public affairs and communications department. Representatives form the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will also be available for questions and feedback.

The Board of Supervisors have a public hearing on the tax districts slated for Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. in the board room of the county government center in Leesburg.

The proposed service districts, located in the areas surrounding the three planned Metro stations in Loudoun, have been designed to help pay for the construction of the Silver Line extension to Loudoun and the ongoing costs for Metro service. An additional real property tax may be levied in the districts for these purposes, at a maximum rate of $0.20 per $100 of assessed property value, according to county staff.

More information, including detailed maps of the proposed districts can be found at http://www.loudoun.gov/dullesrail .
