Several residents in the Purcellville community have received suspicious calls from people asking for money to help the resident’s relatives be released from jail.
According to the Purcellville Police, callers are usually vague and hang up when pressed for more information about the victim’s family. Sometimes the caller impersonates a family member or pretends to represent a family member. The amount requested varies from $1,500 to $2,000.
If you receive a phony or suspicious telephone call, the Purcellville Police warn you to not release any money or personal information and to report the call to police immediately.
