Delegate-elect David Ramadan (R-87th) will take a voluntary 20 percent pay cut from his state salary, he announced Monday.
In a press release Ramadan says, “You can’t ask others to do what you’re not willing to do yourself.
“That’s not leadership; it’s hypocrisy. That’s why I decided to reduce my Delegate salary,” he says.
Ramadan estimated his compensation from the state would be just more than $17,000 in 2012.
“But it’s not about the amount of money,” Ramadan said. “It’s that we need to take initiative and make sacrifices.”
Delegate Joe May (R-33rd), speaking from the General Assembly grounds Monday, said Ramadan’s actions show he is “sharing the pain that our constituents feel.”
May, who is in Richmond two days before the General Assembly begins its regular session for 2012, said he and a former colleague in the House made a similar symbolic gesture in the 1990s by not accepting their legislative pay.
He wasn’t aware of other legislative colleagues reducing their pay, he said, making note it was the “first he had heard” of Ramadan’s decision.
“In my view,” Ramadan states in the press release, “we need to lead by example and sharing the sacrifice we’re asking others to make is one way to demonstrate that.”
Hi here as well litle ‘L’augh. and as I wonder before, did Tom Dunn tell the truth on his economic disclosure form to the county for his Loudoun County Planning Commission slot. Maybe the press will want to see if Tom Dunn listed all his jobs.
I’m a idiot
I admit it. I did not tell the truth on my campaign finance forms.
I’m a clown.
Oh, and I forgot to add. A big slap on the back, little man Tom Dunn, Alabama beat LSU HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Little ‘L’augh, (little may Tom Dunn) you are, if anything, consistent. So, Tom “I got the best sock drawer in the world” Dunn, when are you going to fess up and admit that you lied on your campaign finance forms, and that you did not have money to “loan” yourself, and tell us where the money really came from. Who wanted a vote so badly from you, that $2,000.00 became the price for that vote?
I’m an idiot.
Ah, little ‘L’augh is back. Hi, Tom “I lie” Dunn. Long time no see, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I guess you did not like the reference to your sock drawer, just brimming with cash. I can see why.
Ramadan’s solution to the ubiquitous campaign signs is to leave them where they are and slap “Thank You” stickers all over them.
Under brutal in the dictionary is a video of what Alabama did to LSU, whoa nelly. It is my understanding that the salary drops to 1,411.00 per moth as this is a salaried position. If David were to revirt to previous pay levels then the nay-sayers here would have a gut punch to throw. Any ideas about the election signs?
I’m an idiot
Hi Oranges8. Although you sound reasonable, you are being reasonable about a gimic. This is not legit. Its a gimic, pure and simple. Next month, the salary goes back to where it was, when no one is looking and there is no way to find out. So, the guy postures, gets a little attention, and then continues taking the money. Simple. Kind of like Tom “The Accountant” Dunn who knows how to be surprised when he finds $2,000.00 in his sock drawer. Anyway, GO ALABAMA! Way to stick it to LSU!
A step in the right direction for sure. 20% of something is better than 100% of nothing. Can we get other politicians to do the same? Gimmick or not applause for his gesture. Considering the legislature has not met or done anything there are a lot of negatives on this site. Is it possible to levy a $5.00 fee on political signs without breaking any laws? I think it would be wise to collect this money for sign cleanups and a source of revenue for the general fund.
This guy needs to take his signs and to go back to the country he came from. He’s a complete phony, bought the election and everyone knows it. What a complete idiot. Wake up people
Malcolm Baldwin would never give up any of the money the government gives him.
I’m a village idiot
Now if CONGRESS would do the same——there would be some progress
This is really a foolish move, nothing else. This very small amount of money and this “gesture” is nothing more then a political gimmick which he thinks will bring in better support for him. He couldn’t be more wrong. People see right through these shannanigans and THEY DON’T LIKE IT! Go to Richmond and help write more laws that take away my freedoms. Fight over minute details while our economy sits in the toilet. HOW DOES THIS EVEN GET PRESS COVERAGE? This is a joke…a big joke. Just like Ramadan. Pay your bills for a change, most people do.
Now we know it was David who put the “Ram” in the “Ramadan Ding Dong”, can someone please tell us who put the “Bop” in the Bop ShowaddyWaddy”?
(Every one a gem - I’m here all week)
Hypocrites on here making negative comments about someone who is making a gesture. It may only be 3400 bucks, but that is tax payers money. Who cares what he donates back to his party or how his bills get paid. It may be a political stunt, who cares. We benefit from it. All of you were the same ones bitching about our leaders are quick to cut pay or vote against raises and continue to get raises themselves… here we have one doing what you ask and he is a bad guy? Whether this guy is right or wrong, you had the same opportunity to take his position. However, you decided to continue to live your life not contributing to society. Save your Monday morning quarterback antics for your neighbors, maybe they care. If all of our leaders took steps like this, our government would begin to turn around. So prior to commenting about something on here, explain what you are doing that benefits Virginia more so than the next guy.
What happened Dave? Devil threw another lump of coal on your fire? Why don’t you donate it to the nursing home where you will be staying?
He gets paid $40,000 for part time work?!!?? That’s ridiculous!
Ramadan gave sixty grand to campaigns last year. He won’t miss this little bit.
It’s another campaign gimmick. Please let’s get rid of him and his signs for good in two years.
I would have been WAY more impressed with this guy, had he not littered the coutnryside along Route 15 with 35 campaign signs (I should know, because I picked them up). Here’s a tip for you Mr. Ramadan: posting those signs in the right-of-way is illegal, and you can be fined. Please remember that for the next election.
Head-line should read “Part-time Legislator Takes Negligible Pay Decrease”
Virginia has a so-called “budget surplus”
Now if Frank Wolf or a member of the United States Congress did this…THAT would be news.
It dont matter. He’s probably still going to rake in lots of $$$$$$ from his “small business” of helping foreigners skip the green card line.
What a bunch of morons all of you are that have written below. Let’s see “clown” “laugh” and “rack”, somehow your “names” are appropriate to the lack of brain power that exists here.
And what exactly have all of you done for your country today? ummmm?
Cheap stunt is right. Of course, after a month, and he “quietly” starts taking the salary again, no one will know. And there you go.
He can cut his own salary but can’t afford to pay his own mortgage? What’s up with that? Also, if he couldn’t pay his mortgage, how come he was able to own two houses and donate so much money to his own campaign. I guess every circus needs a clown act at the beginning of the show!
Amazing. He proves he’s an idiot before the legislature even meets.
Can this guy just go away? This is a cheap stunt and the money involved means nothing to a guy who donates tens of thousands of dollars to make political friends.
