    Sept. 11 ceremony in Leesburg
photoTimes-Mirror Staff Photo/Beverly Denny Rebekah Maness of Leesburg, holding her puggle Pugsley, is overcome with emotion during the town of Leesburg’s Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony on the Town Green. Maness lost many family friends, who were her step brother’s childhood friends, in the World Trade Center.

About 50 people came to Leesburg’s Town Green Tuesday evening for a ceremony to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

Wolfe, 5, of Leesburg, leans on his father Richard, president of the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company, during the town of Leesburg’s Sept. 11 remembrance ceremony on the Town Green. Richard said this is the first year his son has asked questions about what happened Sept. 11, 2001. R.J. knows that people died and he has some sense of what death means because he lost a grandmother and grandfather this year, he said. “Every year there are fewer people here. I don’t know if we’re forgetting or if it’s becoming a part of everyday life. It would be a shame to forget,” Richard said. Donna Frye of Leesburg sits at right.
