Sheriff seeking fugitive after Purcellville crash

    Darryl S. Jackson

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 21-year-old Winchester man after he fled deputies Tuesday following a car crash on Route 287.

Darryl S. Jackson is wanted for felony eluding, felony hit and run, reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, brandishing a firearm and driving on revoked license.

Authorities said Jackson, along with four other men, fled their car after crashing on Route 287, just north of Baker Mill Road in Purcellville, during a high speed chase. Jackson, the driver, forced another vehicle off the road into a ditch during the incident, reports said.

The driver of the second car was not injured, deputies said.

The crash closed Route 287 north to traffic for nearly two hours.

According to reports, the chase began about 6:19 p.m. when a deputy saw Jackson speeding in the area of Route 7 and Bell Road in Round Hill.

When the deputy tried to get Jackson to stop his car, Jackson appeared as if he was going to stop and then sped away.
Jackson continued to speed for nearly six miles until he exited onto Route 287, where he crashed.

Four people fled the vehicle on foot, but a fifth person was taken into custody on scene.

Deputies established a perimeter and were able to take three of the men in custody. One was identified as a 17-year-old from Sterling who had an active detention order. He was taken to the Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center.

A search continued for Jackson with deputies using helicopters and K-9s, but Jackson could not be found.

Deputies searched Jackson’s vehicle and found a gun inside, reports said. Investigators later determined that Jackson had pointed the gun at one of the vehicle’s occupants during the pursuit.

The incident on Tuesday was not Jackson’s first run-in with authorities in Loudoun County.

According to Loudoun County Circuit Court records, a bench warrant was issued for Jackson on June 13 after he failed to appear before a judge for sentencing on a probation violation.

In September 2009, he pleaded guilty to credit card theft and was sentenced to one year in prison and two years probation.
Jackson’s probation was revoked in September 2010 and again in November 2011.

Authorities are asking anyone with any information on Jackson’s whereabouts to immediately contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021.
