Sheriff’s Office warns of new telephone scam

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement warning of a new telephone scam where callers claim to information about the resident’s computers in an attempt to gain access.

This new scam trend came into local focus recently when a Loudoun resident received a similar call. The caller, claiming to be a company, said they were “receiving signals” from the resident’s computer. The caller then asked a series of questions about their IP address and passwords.

These could have potentially allowed the caller to remotely access their computer.

Luckily, this caller became suspicious and contacted law enforcement without releasing any personal information.

The Sheriff’s Office has reminded residents never to respond to unsolicited requests for information by phone. A statement from Director of Media Relations and Communications Liz Mills noted that his includes requests to “confirm, verify or update” information and even if the request comes from what appears to be a legitimate business.

Anyone who believes they were a victim of this scam should contact Detective C. Perinis at the Financial Crimes Unit at 703-777-0475.

Sounds like the good old Ammyy scam.
I like to mess with them. They get super mad. It’s funny if you’re bored.
